Do a search on clay bar. That's an excellent first step. If they're still there after a claybar session, they're etched into the paint and you'll need to polish them out with an abrasive polish.

A lot of patience, pain & time to get them out. You will need to clay the car first. Then a porter cable #7424 with yellow( most abrasive foam pad) or orange buffing pads 3m perfect-it II rubbing compound. I would suggest go least abrasive first, yet this is probably not the case for you. Just be carefull not to break or bust through the clear coat.

I don't know why people always suggest to clay prior to using a buffing compound. Even a fine cut compoun will remove more than the clay by a long shot. If you don't have a buffer, try the clay. IF that doesn't work, you'll have to do the compound/polish by hand.

Claying is a much less abrasive method of correction. It's *always* best to use the least aggressive method...the finish only has so much clearcoat.

I agree, but depending on the amount of damage, if he has to use a compound, it's not worth the extra tima and effort to clay first IMO.

How does one know the least aggressive method if it isn't tried?

I always clay before doing major polishing anyway.

True. Good point.

I just don't get why people clay before polishing is all. I've heard people say it makes it easier, but I've never found that to be true. I love the clay bar & I think it's a great way of removing a good amount of surface contamination prior to waxing. But if I'm going to be buffing, I just skip the clay because the buffer will remove all that contamination. Just the way I do it. To each their own.

Polishing doesn't always remove embedded contamination. I've polished a panel and still been able to remove contamination with clay.
