Default Question for those with the Sunoco hood.

Fellas, I'll be getting my hood back from paint & will be installing it Friday... My question is, upon test fitting this hood I noticed how really thin the hood was in some places... This got me thinking, will I run into any issues using the factory hood struts?? Since they're set up for the much heavier factory steel hood & not the super lightweight VFN... I'm worried that the hood won't have enough give & might be prone to craking while trying to shut the hood... Any info on this is appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

How much lighter is it?

If it's a significant difference, I'm sure you could pick up some less heavy duty ones.

Light enough to where I can easily lift it with one hand.

Yeah, I'd say you probably need some lighter-duty ones.

Where to get them from, I'm not sure. I know there have been threads about it here before though.

I'm sure you'll be fine. So once you open the latch does it just pop open on it's own? lol

Haven't made it that far yet, although that would be nice if it did... I just did a quick test fit to make sure everything cleared & that there was no major gapping before I sent it off to paint... I just left the struts off at the time & noticed a BIG difference in weight & the thin areas on the hood... On a side note, this hood took almost no adjusting at all to fit properly... So far I'm really impressed with it.. Just wanna make sure I'm not gonna break it in two with the factory struts on, lol!!

It looks BADASS! now that it is finished! (Saw your other thread with pics!)

Just wondering what you came up with on the hood struts? My hood is on order and I am curious about this myself.

^^Thanks man!!!!! I went ahead & just re-used my factory struts... They've been on there for about a month with no problems... Just make sure you pull the hood down gentley when closing it.. Aslo might keep a hand on the hood when opening it as well, I've found that it springs up pretty damn fast on it's own, because of how lite it is.

I used the factory hood struts. No issues here.

Mike,

I have seen people with this hood use only 1 hood strut instead of both for the same reason you are concerned. Tom is using both and having no issues like he stated, I would just be real careful closing it or take one strut out. Car is looking badass as usual btw.
