I am wanting to pick up an HID kit for my SS..I want everything to be bright.. headlights, foglights and the running lights in the turn signals..First of all where can i buy a COMPLETE kit, for a somewhat decent price. Also do i have to buy the bulbs seperate or should everything come in the package together? thanks alot

you are going to need two kits. one for low beams, one for the fogs. a xenon kit might not fit into the fogs of a camaro though, due to the bulb configuration coming up from the bottom. hids arent really recommended for the highs, since they almost never stay on long enough for a bulb to heat up. its hell on the bulbs and ballasts. as far as should it all come together in a kit? yes. i wouldnt personally suggest using a plug and play kit on a halogen housing. the resulting light output is not correct, although there are some on this forum that will argue that with me. i would suggest using a projector, and retrofitting it into a pair of headlights for your car. theres some info here on that kinda stuff, and also check out hidplanet.com forums. good luck.

I want to do this to my 'camaro eventually, actually asap, but I won't do it without using the proper projectors for Xenon bulbs. Anyhow, the only thing I can really add to this thread right now is that there are actually Xenon foglights available for Camaros - I'm pretty sure. See this thread. https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...&highlight=fog

After that I went looking at PIAAs website and it appears they make that same foglight assembly, which according to the thread is quite easy to adapt, with Xenon bulbs. For me that means if I one day retrofit my headlights I have an easy little add-on to compliment them.

There are quite a few who have done this conversion, and I myself am going to undertake the task this summer. Do a search on here and on LS2.com and you'll find all the info you need to know!

I strongly suggest projectors as well so that you have a proper cutoff and don't blind oncoming traffic. Plus the sharp cutoff is "cool" looking. Anyway, if you don't want to add them into your housings, you can get what called a rebased bulb. They are illegal, because you are not supposed to add HID to cars that didn't come with them, but you can still get them on E-bay and such. All it is, is a HID bulb in which the base has been swapped to fit in a different socket. It's also called a Halogen Retrofit. I don't remember what low beam bulbs the camaro has, but here is a good link you should check out.
http://faqlight.carpassion.info/special-topics.htm

You may not be able to get a high quality bulb, but at least try and get a good quality ballast. They will last much longer.

hmmm..well now i dont know which way to go...unless a projector kit comes out and is a decent price, which i highly doubt, then it looks like i am going to buy just a normal HID kit..

If you do it, make sure to do it right. None of this cheap kit stuff or the AutoZone special type of thing. Those are just crappy and are dangerous to others on the road.

Well, there are cheap junk HID bulbs and ballasts out there and then there are good OEM ones. For instance, stay away from the McCulloch kits.
The best parts are actually OEM. Get some Hella ballasts (made in Germany) and some name brand bulbs. Philips is great, Sylvania may be a tad yellow. Only thing is, they are not rebased bulbs like you need. I plan to get my ballasts and bulbs from here.

Check out my thread here:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearance-detailing/491749-ls1-firebird-headlight-upgrades-general-guide.html

To be more specific on parts, look for the 3rd gen Hella ballasts made for the Audi. They are sealed, have internal ignitors, longer wires and an 80* plug on the end. That thread has some pictures of them near the end.

Rebased bulbs are going to be a crap shoot. Check E-bay and if you have to choose, get the one using a Phillips bulb.
