Default Bubbling sail panel fix...

Ok, I am putting together a thread to get all you creative people out there to come up with somekind of fix or cover up for those of us with the damn bubbling roof panels. All ideas are welcome other than the obvious of getting a new roof. Who ever comes up with a descent DIY fix will definatly be a money maker. So lets see what you guys can come up with....

There is no recall on the sail panel issue. There is a Technical Service Bulletin. If your car is under warranty and you get the right dealer they may fix your car for no cost. If you are out of warranty I doubt the dealer will help you at all. I have been quoted 900 to replace my sail panel. It is probably a little different depending on where you live. There is no way to properly fix this without replacing the panel. Anything you do will only be a temporary fix. The issue is that the sail panel was not properly primed and the adhesive that is used to secure it eventually will bubble through to the surface.

Do a search there are probably 6-12 threads on this issue.

I know there are multiple threads on the issue and I fully understand the problem. I have already been to 2 dealers with no luck. I was wondering if anybody could come up with a piece to cover your sail panel with and get it painted. Maybe some thin sheet metal or something. Somebody with fabricating experiece could maybe come up with something.

That sounds just as expensive as having it fixed the right way.

EDIT: I also think the real fix for this is a class action lawsuit against GM. My poll in the other thread shows this is a problem with 63% of our cars. I don't have time to **** with a lawsuit though, and I'm sure by the time the lawyers get their cut, we'll only get $200 or so.

Your car is an 02, I thought I read somewhere that our cars have a 5 year warranty on the paint. Not to sure about that one, but if you bring it back to the dealer with a copy of a receipt from someone elses who has had it fixed for free, it should be enough. I think I still have my receipt if anyone needs a copy. You could always call the corporate office with the TSB number.
