If you do use a claybar, use a mild one designed for frequent use. It's less likely to cause marring. Gipraw's suggestion is sound, especially if you want to remove the bugs without removing your waxes and sealants. Good idea infact, I think I'll take the tip too.

I use windex, let it sit for 10 minutes, come back and wipe off with a microfiber cloth (thats all that touches my black paint), comes right off no problem...

I've had an issue for quite some time now with bugs not wanting to come off - even the claybar doesn't get ALL of them.

I picked up some new Rain-X Bug & Tar "Prewash Gel" yesterday:

Tomorrow I'm going to test it with a Dawn wash, then claybar and Meguiars 3 step system. If that doesn't take care of my bug issue, I'll be looking into professional detailing very soon.

make sure and let us know how it works .. I have not used that product yet.

and I would suggest not using dawn .. use a good car wash shampoo instead.
dawn can damage your car's exterior.

Will do - I will post pictures as well.

I use Dawn to strip the car of all previous wax before I do the 3-step. Regularly, I wash with Meguiars NXT.

not necessary .. the three step process will remove the odl stuff just fine, without the potential/eventual damage ..

A quick summary for those not wanting to sort through 100 posts...

WD-40 can remove bugs, but will remove your wax.
Bug&Tar removers get rid of them too, but will also remove your wax.
50% alcohol/50% water might help, but will also remove your wax.
Using a polish will remove them, but will also remove your wax and is a more extreme step.
Claybar can remove them if they haven't discolored the paint.

My recommendation:
Use bug&tar or WD-40 and hopefully that fixes it. Then wash&wax.
If bug&tar doesn't work, then try a claybar. If that fixes it, wash&wax.
If that still doesn't work, after the claybar try a mild polish (like something you'd use to remove swirls.. NOT a filler. Z5 is a filler, Z-PC is a polish) to take it out. Then wash&wax.

If that still doesn't work, you can go to heavier polishes, but you're pretty SOL if that stuff isn't off by now. Please feel free to correct any of this if it's wrong.

I just recently used the Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover on some tar that wouldn't come off of a Jeep Liberty and it came right off with the product. I also used this on my 2002 Z28 that had tree sap on the front of it. I sprayed it on the cool surface and let it sit for a minute. It took most of it off. I sprayed some more on it and let that sit for a minute, the rest of the sap was gone. I wiped it off with terry cloth towels.

Car wash soap and water. Scrub using a yellow sponge that has a white net on the outside(its real soft, so it won't mar your paint). Rinse and repeat. If they've been on there a while, you might have to scrub the hell out of them. If they don't come off using that, then they are in your clearcoat. You might be able to get them out of the clearcoat through wetsanding and/or a high speed buff with abrasive compound.

EDIT: I heard that Coke and aluminum foil does a hell of a job on chrome(real chrome, not plastic chrome). Cleaned the **** out of junkyard truck bumper on Mythbusters.

Dude steal a towel from a hotel spit on it (spit is a mild acid an it's free) an rub the bug off works on bird dookie also if the bug or bird dookie has been there for an extended period of time rub his *** off / smooth peanut butter either method just wash car with mediuen priced car soap. don't waste good $ on crappie claybar & waxs you're car is realitively new just keep it clean. expesically after a long night drive or long trip don't let the bug soak in.

don't use coke it will be harsh on you're paint the guy who suggested this go try it on his paint.

anymore detailing ?s

You know chances are that some of the guys have such a tuff time getting "bugs" of their car really dont have bugs on them anymore but rather bugs stains. The spots left were the acid in the bugs has eaten through the paint. You can clay bar it, dawn it, do what ever you want to it and you can get those off without repainting it.
