Default Those who burnout, come inside.

What can I do to keep my rear bumper in good, clean shape when doing a burnout at the track? Is there anything I can put over it like masking tape just to run it or would wax be fine? I just don't want to scratch it up or have rubber stuck on it. Thanks for any opinions or advice.

You're gonna get rubber on it no matter what you do. Geddex makes a burnout guard that you can spray on so the stuff doesn't stick. I've also heard of using Pam or baby oil to keep it from sticking. If you're that worried about it getting dirty keep it in the garage.

wax it before hand and then clean after with clay bar and assorted materials is just what i've heard...definately don't let it sit the night...i'd clean it RIGHT when i got home.

I've seen guys at the track with masking tape on the rear bumper. I just leave the rubber on there like under coating.

I've been told Pam works great, its cheap, easy to spray on and wont damage the paint (you can eat the stuff).

That would get expensive real fast...

I'd stick to Geddex or Pam.

Thanks guys for the advice. I'll start searching for some stuff. I'm not worried about it getting dirty, I don't want to mess up the paint. Thanks again

I get more crap on my paint from daily driving that doesn't want to come off than at the drag strip. I knock the big pieces off with my hand and wash the rest off with soap and water. I've never had an issue getting it clean and I have over 160 runs on the car!

Just make sure you have a good coat of wax on that area. The rubber will come off easy. I don't like the look of those cars with masking tape all over the rear quarters.

Mudflaps.

Dont worry about it, the track is cleaner than most roads you drive on. You'll get more rock chips DRIVING to the track then you will at the track.

I bring a pair of heavy landscaping gloves to the track, and after i run and pull back to the lanes, i take the gloves and just gently rub the rubber right off, it all falls off because its still soft.

Thanks again guys. I have an hour and a half drive to the track. I drive on the street tires there and run slicks at the track. I think I'll take a soft cloth and a bottle of water and to wipe it off as well as use the wax. Thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it. The car only has 13,000 miles on it along with it being a H&C, full bolt-on, full suspension, stalled, geared, and sprayed car so it'll throw some rubber. Thanks again.

Here is your solution:

Duplicolor Shield. Its pretty much a clear, temporary spray-on paint protectant that washes off with soap and water.

It will protect from road debris, melted rubber, and chips.

Just wash it off with soap and water the next time you wash the car. Then re-apply and hit the track again
