It does look sand/bead blasted looking at the photo...
Caution though, make sure the masking material used is very strong. IF you use grey tape or something like that the sandblaster will fray the edges very quick and you won't have the sharp outline shown in the pictures.
I like the idea. Pretty cool looking.

You can buy liquid solutions that will give the "etch" look. Usually used in glass/plexi/lexan, I'm sure there's something like it that is used for metal. Ask at a local hardware store. If nothing else, sandblast!
