Default Painting ground effects

Hey guys, i have a question for you all, i am going to be painting ground effects for my camaro and i know i need to sand and prime, but is the stuff at autozone or pep boys good? what type of black should i get, flat or glossy, and if i get flat black, what kind of clear should i get? any input would be greatly appreciated.

Black is one of the hardest colors to paint. Have a body shop do it for you and save yourself time and alot of headache.

I wouldnt use any type of rattele can on large body components like GFX.
To get a decent job I agree to get it painted. Or you could buy your own paint gun at lowes etc and get some decent paint, clear and thiner and try it yourself. That would be your best bet.

find an auto paint shop and get your supplies from them, they have all the sand paper you need and can scan your paint to match colors, paint fades over time. I did a quarterpanel in black and the hardest part is not getting it to run, other than that its not all that difficult.

Go to an auto paint supply store and get a color match using PPG paints. if you're gonna spray yourself you'll need at least a 35 gallon air compressor (50+ would be better, but since you're painting relatively small pieces, a 35 gallon will do). Get yourself an HVLP gun (High volume, Low pressure; creates less overspray and less wasted product with excellent transfer efficiency).

You'll need Primer, Reducer, Hardener, Basecoat, and clearcoat to do it right. You also may want to invest in a flex additive, especially for the long side pieces. This will help to prevent chipping or stress cracking the paint during installation. As far as the actual procedure is concerned, there are many good write-ups online as well as good beginners guids at Barnes and Noble or Borders.

Don't be scared. With the proper tools and materials it's a very easy hobby to pickup but a very difficult one to master.
