Is the flat black clearcoated?
Is the flat black clearcoated? Could anyone tell me if the flatblack around the headlights on the LT1 cars is clearcoated from the factory? We have an LT1 car that has a chip in the paint in this area, and I don't know if the whole front has to be re-done. Thanks! Bob

there are flat blacks that are clearcoated with an additive that makes the finish dull, this is generally how the flat black and semi gloss paint jobs are done anymore. As for the trim on F-bodies I know they are typically done with a rattle can and the whole front is definitly not cleared.

I am pretty sure from the factory it's not painted AT ALL (except on black cars)... just exposed black plastic...
To MATCH the factory just spray that part in flat/satin black...
To look SLIGHTLY better than factory spray that part (ON BOTH SIDES) and on the grille opening (or it will no longer match) LOW-GLOSS or SEMI-GLOSS black...
To look AMAZING, spray that part (ON BOTH SIDES) and on the grille opening (or it will no longer match) black WITH A GOOD CLEAR COAT (no need to spray the whole bumper)...
There is a flat clear that is used on modern cars that want the flat black look (Charger Daytona for example) but that was not done on FACTORY paint for LT1 Camaros..
Which leads me to a question... since it was bondo'd (which is REALLY ODD for a urethane bumper) are you sure it's factory? Give us a pic and we can help you determine...

They just didn't paint that part of the bumper, it's still in black plastic...
