Claybar HELP
Claybar HELP Ok, I used this claybar yesterday and everything was fine. I go to use it on my bcar and the dang thing is falling apart. Its crumbling and its sticky. We ran out of the detailing spray so we have been using carwash soap and water. What can I do to get te thing hard again? I neeed to figure this out since I've already done my hood and the car has been washed with dawn soap.

The problem is the Dawn soap... its eating up the clay bar, its a very aggresive soap vs car soaps. Had you used regular car soap for the water/soap used with the bar it wouldnt have happened. Buy a new bar.

I just reread your post.. did you use Dawn and water for the clay lube? If not what kind of car wash soap did you use?

Get another clay bar . and use a quick detailing spray as a lube .. Mother's Meg's and Poor Boys all make QD's that function very well as clay lube.
I am not a fan of using car soap (or any other kind of soap) as clay lube .. The only benefit of using car soap as a lube is that it is cheaper than QD, and unless you are claying your car once a week, don't be cheap, spend the extra 7 bucks and get enough QD spray to get the job done ..
soap will cause clay bars to break down, but haven't seen car soap do it that quick before .. usually takes more than one or two applications .
any chance the bar froze, or was left soaking in the soapy water ?
As for washing with Dawn, not a fan of that at all .. once in a blue moon will probably not cause any long term damage .. but why take a chance? It is hard on the car's paint, and hard on the plastics and rubbers on your car also, but that is a discussion for another time and another thread ..

your not suppose to use dawn soap to wash your car all the times just for lube when using a clay bar.

I justed used to dawn soap to wash the car to get the wax off it. A few weeks back I put two coats of wax on her so I really needed to get that off. The bar was in my house on a a piece of cardboard. I don't know what happened. When I started it was fine. By the end of doing the hood it started to break down. So I got my hood done. Its smooth as can be. Looks amazing. This weekend I will start over. I through 1 coat of NXT wax on the car just to hold over till the weekend.
