Yes, there is a difference, in my opinion, You'd better spend the money & go for the Porter-Cable unit now. (I did last years & do not regret it one bit. Well worth it to me, & I have a black car.)
You'll want the dual-action of the Porter-Cable. A simple rotary buffer will not give you the same final results.
You can get the P-C 7424 for about $90-110 on eBay all day. But check some sponsors to see if they have any deals, or chekc the for sale forum for used units.

if i was to buy one again, i would go for the meguiars model, its a little bit more $, but it has a lifetime warranty versus the pc 1 year warranty. and it works exactly the same way!!!!
