But actually I am in the process of making some projectors for the 98-02 T/a's. Then I think Ill tackle the 93-97 with some bi-xenon. Then on the the Camaro's.
Keeping low cost/high quality in mind, I will be using (I hope) projectors that can be HID or halogen....

Where did you see Hella projectors for $170 each? Are they the same ones? Hella does make a HID projector combo though, but its $500 per side for $1000 for the pair.

are these the ones that they are considering making illegal because they are blinding to other drivers? almost like having brights on all the time?

sorry for my writing or you just didn't understand what i was trying to say. But a halogen projector is meant for a halogen bulb not an HID burner. It works you just won't get the same performance that you would with the proper setup. You can get a set of E46 single/bi-xenons for close to the same price of the hella halogen projectors if you search around and make your own housings and do your own retrofit.

That site says that there is a slight difference. But then it goes to say that the lens is a bit different in the later ones (sounds like the later H9 lens is the same as the HID lens, unconfirmed though). According to that site: "A D2S capsule, with 3200 lm output, only produces 26% more lm than the H9, at highway voltage, so optics would not be oversaturated, which can typically happen when original light source is much weaker than an HID bulb." Using the halogen lumens numbers from Sylvania's site..... For comparison a H7 bulb (which is a higher output than the stock 4703) is about 1350 lumens at 12v (1575 lumens @ 14v). If my math is correct, thats a 51% difference between the H7 and the D2S. According to Sylvania, H9 is 2000 lumens at 12v (2333 lumens @ 14v) which makes a 27% difference.
Do you have any dimensions on the E46 or TSX projectors? It seems that the Hella H9 projector is easier to fit. Also, Im not completely sure I want the extra expendature of HID just yet. I may run the H9 bulbs for a while and eventually upgrade to HID. Since many people have converted the Hella H9 projector with success its seems like a good idea.
I've done plenty of research on this topic. My earlier post full of links is only some of what I've found. I've found other projector options as well. Some other options are no longer available. For example, I found another sealed HID projector online made by Valeo, but it seems that they either arent made any more or they're are hard to get new.

Ill find out soon guys, Ill post pics of the HID's next to the halogens for camparison. From what I can tell its going to look exactly the same, besides the brightness. The Filaments are in the same position once inside the housings.
