Default Best Way to touch up Missing Paint?

Hey guys,

My Delco battery decided to let go about a year ago and the terminal came out and acid leaked down the inside of the engine bay. The acid ate through the paint on the frame. I was thinking about sanding it down and spraying it with some primer and just leaving it at that since you can't see it. Is this a good idea? Should I put somthing on top of the primer?

Thanks.

Sand away ALL of the rust, it has acids in it and will continue to rot away the metal. Once you get the metal back to shiny, coat it with something like POR-15 paint. It can be brushed on, and it seals and rustproofs. Under the battery area is a very common place for rust to form due to leaking batteries. Left untreated, it will rot that area away pretty badly.

Same thing happen to me. I Coked it down at the car show and when I got the car home, I removed the battery, sanded it down to bare metal, primed it, and sprayed some red paint back on the area after masking it off. Basically the same thing you said.

Another option is to make a baking soda paste and spread it over the area. It will neutralize the acid and you can hose it off afterwards. That's what I did and had no problems.
