Default Help Installing Billet Grille On Camaro

I'm trying to put a Billet Grille on my 2002 Camaro and am running into problems. After removing the stock grill you are supposed to drill holes and use screws and a retainer clip to attach the grille. The problem is I see no way to reach my hand back behind the bumper to hold the retainer clip that the screw goes into. The only thing I see that might work is removing the three plastic rivets that hold the bottom of the front bumper assembly to the front end, but I don't know how to remove those rivets. Hopefully someone else has run into the same problem and might be able to help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I never installed that grille before, but I would think all you have to do is pull the clips that attach the front clip to the frame off. I believe there 6 plastic screw/clips. Then you can simply pull or reach in beind the front nose.

those three "plastic rivets" are two piece fasteners, you pull the small center pin out, then pull the rest of it out. its pretty simple and you just pull the bumper cover down until you can fit your hand back there.

I just went to the hardware store and got wood screws and screwed it in with that (directly into the bumper)...

I used a hex head though so that it's less likely to get stolen...

On the two piece fasteners, I'm assuming I just pry the middle piece out with a small screwdriver? It seemed to all rotate together when I fiddled with it so I assumed it was all one piece. I'll look more closely and see if I can figure out how to get the middle part of the fastener off. Thanks for the help.

You still will NOT be able to get your hand back there without removing the bumper... There is a big piece of styrofoam the bumper is sort of sitting on.

I feel the styrofoam. I was hoping there was some way to get my hand around it if I removed the fasteners. Apparently not. I guess I need to just screw it into the plastic. I'm just concerned about it holding with only the screws in the plastic and no retainer clips.

You mean you have to drill into the bumper to install a grill? I thought they would of used the holes that are already there.

Just drill pilot holes with a SMALL bit and then use wood screws twice the size of the bit (at least an inch long as well) and you'll be fine... Mine's been on for a year and also didn't come off when some bastards tried to yank it off and steal it...

i put mine on when i had the bumper off, i used small 7mm bolts and put a nut behind it, its about as theftproof at it can get, not many people carry around 7 mm sockets and once it gets loose the nut behind it just spins and doesnt come off.....hahha

Well, I really didn't want to just screw the grille in with woodscrews even if it will stay on so I decided to rivet it on. Unfortunately the head of the rivet gun would not fit in between the bars on the grille! I finally ended up using those fasteners that you put in drywall and when you put the screw in they expand from the back to keep them from pulling through. It's finally on and has a nice tight fit. If I can find a rivet gun with a smaller head I think I will end up riveting it on. Thanks to all for your help!
