Mask/bag everything and clearcoat the engine bay....

Consider it a weekend project.

That's it. That's your answer. Take it or leave it.

Um... where's the beer?

Above is a great option. I did the !wire, !hoodlatch, !AIR, !stickers, !holes, and spray bombed the engine compartment. Took a weekend, but was WELL worth it!

Polishing the towers & such can be done. I did it with 3M Finess-it II by hand & then put a coat of wax on top of it. Mine looked absolutely horrible from the factory & was rough as hell. It was done when the vehicle was new & the paint still shines the same almost 5 years later.

Here's a couple of pics. Not the best quality, but you get the idea.

These other two are kinda bleached out since they were taken in direct sunshine (& my camera sucks), but you can see the shine a little better.

I did a buddy's '98 NBM SS the same way & his came out looking even better. The key is the 3M is a super fine cut polish, so you can go over one spot multiple time & not have to worry about burning through. I certainly would try it with any other polishing coupound though.

Putting any kind of dressing to get a shine is only going to make you do more work to keep the engine bay clean in the long run. Just my .02

Wax it every other month.. (wax is a consumable) it disappears

Or.... clear coat it... Rattle can is fine, just mask the area after cleaning with solvent and spray it 'till your heart's content.

It'll look glossy for years.... and you... did it.

I will probably clear coat it this spring. I have already taped everything off and painted the side walls (where the fender is bolted up). If you look, the darn side walls are barely painted and more black/grey than red. I've also painted a couple of pieces up front, not sure how to describe them...the radiator support cross member? I'll see if I can dig up a pic.
