Default 6" pads fit on a 6.5" backing plate?

Just curious. I bought a Meguiar's PC kit and it came wiith a 6.5" backing plate, 2 6.5" polishing pads, 1 6.5" finishing pad, and much more. But I was wondering if I could use 6" pads on the 6.5" backing plate.

Also, the counterweight that was installed on the PC when I pulled it out of the box says it's for 5" pads only. Do I need to purchase a 6" counter-weight?

if the pads, are smaller then the plate, dont use them you will end up burning the paint with the backing plate, the pad should overlap the side of the backer atleast half inch to be safe,
