No i had three coats on them and looked like ****, tooks tons of sanding to get them to normal and ended up leaving alot of pits and dents. I only wetsanded with 1000 grit and layed 2 coats of clear, i do not like the high gloss look so both my berger and tails were not wetsanded during the clearing stage

I used 2 cans on just the rear tail lights and another can on the side markers and 3rd light. Then I used two and a half cans of clear coat on my tail lights and the other half on the rest. I re-did mine the other day. Here is a before and middle and after:

Before:

After the first attempt with no clear:

I went to Pep Boys to buy the Dupli Clear Coat, and they had two diffrent Cans. My first assumption as the was the sellers to get the Enamel. Can someone verify which is the correct one to buy pls? Plan to do mine this weekend.

You can't get much lighter. Thats what mine look like too. It's hard to go light and make it blend. You gotta get it even and you end up putting a lot on.

I just used the Truck/SUV clear coat. It had picks of SUV's on the can too. Haven't had a single issue in well over a year.

oh if you want a good clear get the stuff for wheels by Duplicolor GREAT stuff, doesn't yellow and when it sets up it's VERY rigid. I vote for VHT. I've used the stuff before and thought about doing my Vette's tails

Default night shade

dude i used the nightshade but i was having problems with it not looking shinny. so i put a coat on let it dry then scuffed it with scotchbrite to make it dull and keep on untill i got as dark as i wanted then i mixed up some car clear coat and sprayed them. turned out awsome and i havent even color sanded and buffed them yet. ill try to post picks sat when my car gets painted and back together. so you can see them in the car

I know this is a long thread, but got to pic ***** her out!!

I say go Niteshades, It's not that hard to do, and you will (most of the time) be happy with the results! As you can tell, no problems seeing the brake lights at night, and I have All of my lenses (with the exception of the headlights and fogs, of course) done with Niteshades!

Here's mine, did it like Big Mike:

I do not use clear and there are a few reasons why.

First I obviously pref NightShade. I got the GTS covers with the car and gave them to the wife for her Camaro. I also pref to do this as I like the look with the Reverse lights still clear and the cops notice it less although its completely legal here.

With 1 can I did my rear hatch, rear sides and the Tails and still had enough to play around more. As show it shows through brighter then my GTS's did and looks good.

Sanding would be just fine however I recommend more coats of paint just because its not a bad idea to save yourself from going back and adding more then redoing the whole job just because you may not have sanded lightly before...

However back to why I do not like clear. It looks good for about a year or so and then if you have not stayed on top of waxing/polishing it fades and becomes cloudy. For some of us we wash and take care of our cars more then our women.... but this is not true for all of us as we see the abused cars everyday sadly enough.
So be forewarned, if you foresee yourself loosing enthusiasm in detailing your tails on top of the rest of the car... do NOT use clear coat.

Now here is my vehicle after it rained unfortunately so it was again dirty... gotta love the desert when it rains... gets rid of all that dirt in the air.

Before with the GTS (And I have seen tail Lights that were caved in due to these):

After with VHT Nightshade:
