I did a test tonight with the top of the A/C canister. It came out pretty dam good. I went as high as 2500 grit. I used wet sand paper the whole time. I will post pictures when I get the chance.

Yes, I used Mothers Metal Power, or Power Metal Aluminum. I used the liquid form. Is the solid kind any better? It has a nice great shine in person. The pictures will be better out in the sun.

Just played with my tips as I just put mine on. Had them on a few days and adjusted them. Wasn't much to polish on them, but I can tell you I had stainless steel and it didn't hurt em. I assume its no problem.
