Default !sidemolding and problem

This weekend I took the sidemolding off, used fishing line and then lifted the rest off. Driver side went amazing, car looks very clean on that side. Went to the passenger side and now have a black line around the back edge of where the sidemolding use to be and all along the top.

I tried using goo-gone and bug/tar remover from turtle wax and neither one worked. Went to the car wash, couldnt get it off there either. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or anything. I have some pictures, but dont know how to upload them really.

When I get close it almost looks like the passenger side had like a coat of clear ripped off because its a bit brighter red than the paint above it on top. Plus I can feel an edge on it. I just dont think that would be possible at all since there was a full line of glue down that I rolled off by hand.

Any help please? I know you will all probably want to see a picture of it, so Ill work on that too.

I figured thatd be the next step to get it off, but I dont know which ones to use. I usually use mcguiers polish, then wax, nothing specific. I didnt know if that would take it off or not.
Im going to have my car fully detailed once I get my new hood painted, and bumper repainted.

Do you have a pc? If you do I would use a mild abrasive such as Manzerna with a a yellow pad and go to town on the area thats discolored and if that doesnt work, then you might have ripped some clear coat. One of the dangers of removing the side molding, you just never know what its gonne look like in the end.

Thanks for the tip 01camaroz28. Im not great with that stuff, so Ill probably have my friend see if he can get it to come off.

I dont think it was repainted. It could have been, but its on the door, rear quarter and front quarter, so it would have been the entire side. Which also made me think I didnt rip the clear coat.

I used some polish (mcguiers) on it tonight - didnt help any - but it didnt take off any red color, so im pretty sure its still cleared.

When i took it off I remember seeing sucks of red paint on the edge of the glue... I figured it came off the side molding. Didnt really think much of it since the glue covered the entire area where the side molding was.

A little hard to tell from those pictures, but is it raised or lowered? Meaning, is that material on the surface or does it feel like paint and clearcoat are missing?

If it's just built up wax and dirt, try using a claybar to get it off. I had similar looking buildup when I took mine off and it took some time with a claybar, followed by a good polish and wax session.

hate to tell ya man, but the molding had got cleared and they didn't take it off to paint underneath it so with the molding off it is uneven, and the only fix is to have it sanded down and painted again, i had the same **** happen 2 me, but on both sides

Well thats shitty to find out. Im taking my car to get the hood painted along with the bumper soon. Ill ask my painter how much to fix it.
Hopefully they will be able to just blend the fenders in those spots and repaint the entire door. I have a bad door ding on that door anyway right on the edge you cant see it though unless you really look for it, which is why its not fixed yet.

Thanks for all the help guys. That just sucks to find out theres no helping it.

Chupr0kabra - Its raised a bit, its not the same color as the car, its still shiny underneath though like its been cleared too. Thats what confused me. It might have been repainted on top of the paint. That would explain the chunks of red IN the glue i was rolling off.

Yeah, mine looks like that too. My driver side rear fender was keyed and repainted, they blended in the door too but never removed the molding. Funny how it states on the Invoice that the molding was removed and replaced, if it was...it wouldn't look the way it does.

It's gonna take a painter to fix it...mines not that bad, so I am not worried about it.
