Default Clear corner install write up with pics./ Edited

Spring is here and I see guys are wanting to install clear corners on there cars, here's the link and I hope it helps some, if anyone wants to add anything please do so.

Here's how I do them, the blue tape shows the area I'm talking about.

1. Remove the five black plastic pins in picture C1, this will allow you to pull the fascia forward ( helps with the removal of the head light assembly ).

2. I used duct tape to protect the fender and fascia from getting scratched, picture C2 shows the headlight already out but you can get the idea of the masking.

3. Remove the 10mm bolt from the rear of the headlight assembly, picture C3, this is the only bolt you need to remove the headlight. You can now remove the headlight bulbs ( do not touch the bulbs with your fingers ), I just twist them out but if you want you can unplug the harness from the bulb assembly then remove the headlight assembly.

4. Picture C4 shows the two tabs on the rear of the headlight, you slide the headlight assembly towards the center of the car when removing. When you re-install the headlight assembly make sure the tabs slide together the same way as when you removed it.

5. Picture C5 already had the headlight assembly out but you get the idea about pulling the fasica out to help with the headlight removal, if you can have a friend pull the fascia out while you remove the headlight that would be great.

6. Picture C6 shows the three 7mm ( I think ) screws that hold the corner lense in place, twist out the bulb sockets and remove the three screws and lift the amber lense out. Sometimes you will have wiggle it out but it will come out. When re-installing the bulb sockets make sure the foam gasket is still on the bulb socket.

Now just re-install everything and you should be good to go, good luck.

Scroll down farther to see pics.

Nice work Al!

Just fyi- I didn't do step 5 (remove the fascia). You can sneak the clear corner lense through the headlight assembly if you're careful. Make sure you tape like Al did in the install pictures though. I didn't and I paid the price. I was able to buff out the scratches though.

You don't need to "remove" the fascia, by removing the five plastic push pins you can pull the top of the fasica away from the car, that will make removing the headlight much easier and safer. That's my opinion anyway's.

A couple of things that I forgot to mention, I like to wear Mechanix Wear gloves when removing the headlight assembly, there can be some sharp edges on the headlight which can bite you. Also next to the corner lense there's a bolt that holds a brace to the fender, if the lense catches on the bolt just unloosen it some, that should give you enough room to remove the lense.

Nice write up

Can anyone tell me where exactly to drill a hole on my CC's? I have had 4 sets on 3 different cars and 3 of them always blow the 3157 blubs. I am guessing its from water cause most of the time it happens after I wash my car. Any picture would be helpful.
Thanks

Glad to see it's still of some help after posting it a year ago.

Definitely a good post to revive. It brought back some nice memories of my Z28. Here are the clear corners that I installed over a year ago with the help of Al's little write up. I miss that car. Sorry for the poor pic quality.

Wish I would have read this when I did mine. Would have been a lot easier. Good post.

My hubby installed mine about a month ago -- using Al's instructions it was a piece of cake. Thanks!

In regards to the holes question...

I used a pretty small drill bit and just drilled 5 holes spaced apart where it "looked" like water might sit.

Drilled mine on the bottom.

Had the corners blow 2 sets of bulbs before I did this, then drove the car 3 months before selling without a problem.

I'm gonna have to do this now. I keep blowing bulbs like crazy! I don't even bother to change them now. I have changed each one over a dozen times in a year. I just drive with no blinkers now. Hope I don't get a ticket!

Go with LED's, I did and haven't even worried one second. They aren't as bright, but still nice...
