I'd never touch any clearcoated car with 800 grit paper. Most bodyshops wetsand with 1500 and 2000 grit.

I use 1500 on a block than 2000. You should tape all edges, even experienced people can **** up.

im only planning on using the 800 grit on the front bumper. only reason for using it was to take a good chunk of clear off to help smooth the paint and get rid of the peppering, as well as some scratches. It doesnt matter what grit you use the fact of the matter was i had a certain amount of clear to take off to get it smooth and blemish free and 800 grit is faster and more economical. On the rest of the panels i will only use 1000 grit, if not only 2000 grit for wet sanding to get rid of orange peel and to make buffing alot easier. this front bumper has been alot of work but it was also in some pretty bad shape. the hood is pretty thrashed as well and will be getting a thorough sanding as well.

wait till you guys see the new pics after about 4 hours worth of buffing/sanding again today....haha ill post em tomorrow when i get on works fast internet.

your gonna ****..... i cant believe how amazingly nice this is turning out, especially because there is still no wax and i havent even put the glaze on yet, just got to the swirl remover 2.0 step and it started getting dark on me.

That looks great. After you get it looking nice, can't you just have a new clearput on?

It's a good short-term fix, but obviously decreases the life of the paint, which doesn't matter if you're getting a repaint anyway. Looks very good.

How much is it really going to decrease the life of the paint when i wax the dang thing with zaino every weekend? and when you say decrease the life of the paint what do you mean by that?

from what i understand the life of the paint is completely dependent on upkeep of the paint and car, if ya take care of it its going to last forever.

Like ZaneO said, decreased UV protection. Also, things that would have simply chipped or scratched the clearcoat are more likely to go all the way through to the paint now. That's what I mean by decreasing the life of the paint.

well everytime you wax and buff.. you technically remove small amounts of the clear coat.. so if you're buffing every week.. i cant see that helping the coat.. but who cares at this point.. repaint is coming..

zaino is a non abbrasive and supposedly doesnt harm clear coat in any way.

i dont buff every week, ive only buffed once with the random orbit. i wax every week

Ide really like to wet sand my car also but not sure how much clear is on it. I fixed a spot on the hood that I wet sanded and I sanded pretty much and it did not go through. When you paint it yourself and put 3 wet coats of clear on you know you have plenty of clear to sand it smooth. Was a huge nick down to the fiber glass I filled it in with single stage and sanded it smooth then buffed it which turned out great.
