I made some for a buddy's '00 Z28

I made these with hand tools in an single apartment garage. It took two days. Using a 90 degree drill attachment (for the brackets to mount under the cowl) was the biggest pain.

yeah man, those back bolts are a HUGE PITA....i got so pissed off at them that i just used some self-tapping screws just to get it done. when i get back from the Street Machine Nationals, i'll do it better.

i like those brackets in that bottom pic there, those look pretty sweet...

so basically you guys are using 4 4" pieces of 90 degree aliminum with one hole drilled in each top and two on the sides for the threaded rod to fit through and then using a spacer of some sort between the coils...

so im guessing these could also be made out of steel and then plug weld the threaded tube to two of the brackets preferbly the front one then grind flush so it looks smooth, slide coils and spacers on the attach back bracket with bolts?

thanks
-Nate

more or less.....yeah. there isn't much to 'em. that's why it seems foolish to some of us to pay $200+ for a kit from somewhere....*granted* most of those kits include the wires you need too....but you're still overpaying....you also don't HAVE to mount these under the cowl. people put them on the inner fenders too...i've even seen some mounted behind the headers on the block. that's not necessarily the best and definately not the easiest way, but you could re-use stock plug wires that way i suppose...

creativity and wrench-time, it's what drives the industry and the hobby make them how you want out of whatever.

while we're on the subject, i made a newer, more refined set for my SS. i didn't like how the old ones stood out so much, so i made these. i've still got a little trimming to do, but i'm lazy and i've got bigger problems with the car....

it's thin, cheap crap. you can get it just about anywhere. it's just plain alluminum extrusion, 1/8" think i think, 1.5"x1.5"...i don't think it's 2"x2". just take a coil to the hardware store with you and see what it will fit in. these are definately no challenge to make if you have the tools, time, and patience.

my newer style brackets are just steel flat bar. i drilled and tapped holes so i could screw the pieces together AND so the packs could be removed easier, which is necessary during intake or fuel injector removal....at least where i mounted them. not surprisingly, GM didn't make the underside of our wiper cowls flat all the way across , bastards, otherwise the brackets would be further from the intake...

^^^ Try taking those valve covers off now

Its been done before try using the search feature.

I have a set with wires for $150 delivered if someone is looking. I just sold a set. Its well over $100 for the stuff to make the wires. Then you need to find those aluminum spacers. Mounting it you need to take you wipers off and get access to the cowling.

I use MSD wires and componants, go to summit and price it out. Isn't cheap to make the wires. You'll see that my deal isnt bad at all. Plus I've already done the trial and error part. You can take the valve covers off if you follow my directions and use my kit.

I know what works best. But if someone wants I'll just make wires for them if they want to make their own brackets.

yes, the coils haft to be removed, but no big deal thow. The round LS2 coils have a different bolt pattern they are opposite to the LS1 style coils,so the bolt hole are vertical instead of horizontal
