Default The new hood is finished.

I ordered the new/revised Mecham hood for my car a few weeks ago and finally got around to getting some pictures. The revised hood is taller and more agressive than the original. It also has functional ram air unlike the original, I had bugs all over my breather after a late night cruise this weekend.

Thanks!

The original hood is packed away with the original wheels. A few people have asked to buy it, I cant let it go since its original to the car.

The original/first design is also no longer available from Mecham, only the new/revised design.

It required a little more prep than most hoods I have worked with. I do bodywork for a living though so it wasnt a problem. I have quite a bit of experience working with fiberglass also.

The hood is available at www.mechamperformance.com

I've always thought the same about the mecham hood myself. Seems like fitment is very good.

I saw this hood for the first time here and two days later I see it on my cousin's v6 firebird. It turns out his wife wrecked his frontend so he went to the junk yard to look for a factory replacement. He ended up getting this one for $400. He has no idea how much this hood costs and apparently neither did the guys at the junk yard! I just might switch with him without telling him what hes got on his hands. I'll just give him my T/As factory hood!

The only reason I'd ever want to do a front end conversion is for that hood! I've always dug it! Beautiful! Would like to see it on arctic white.

Side note:

I've also wondered about that Mecham spoiler - Is it all one piece to completely replace the stocker or does it more or less slap on top the old?

It completely replaces the original, here are a couple of more pics...

Heres a shot of a red one that better shows the design from the rear..

Its about 50/50 on average with the spoiler, some like it and some dont.
I joke to some of my friends about how there spoilers look to tiny..lol

Mecham was just as much about function as appearance, the hood and spoiler both work well at higher speeds.

The hood relieves the pressurized pocket in the engine bay aiding in air flow through the radiator. This helps quite a bit when the engine is under sustained high loads/temps. Its the same as the C5R vette, Series 1 Shelbys ect. only on a much smaller scale. It also has Ram air but we all know how that helps performance so I wont go into it.

The fourth gen F-body is also shaped like an air plane wing, at high speeds the rear of the car tries to lift. The high down force rear wing helps to over come this and improves stability. In addition the this the car has a very pronounced rake further aiding in aerodynamics.

Thanks again for the complements!

They made some 97 Mecham T/A's with extractor hoods and unique rear spoilers. There is a guy that lives here locally with a 97 Mecham T/A.
You might check there site to see if there still available or send Dennis an email.
