Stock WS6 hood is best, 2nd best is 4" WS6, the SLP hood looks horrible, and the Mecham hood is a sin, sorry.

i love my vfn 4" hood. Fitment was not as great as everyone made it to be quite honestly sucked, but i love the look and always get compliments. I also have those hideous lights that i love too.

here are some pics when i just put it on.

I have really been thinking about this hood as well. I would need it to run the eldebrock intake. It would actually serve a purpose as well as look good.

Also how much did it cut out of your driving view?

This may not be true but someone told me we got discounts from our sponsers. Is this true.

I think I am leaning toward the WS9 or WS9 outlaw. Any more pictures?

Im not defending VFN or any other fiberglass manufacturer but a lot of people dont realize that you can heat fiberglass and tweak it. Fiberglass is pretty soft when its new and whith a little heat it will relax and can be manipulated or tweaked to correct issues like this one.

The front corners on my Mecham hood were both approx. 2" above the fenders. I placed a block of wood between the latch and striker to hold the hood open and placed a folded towl on each outer corner with two disc brake rotors on top of each towl. With the weight of the rotors on the high corners I used a heat gun to heat the recessed erea along the side of the raised part of the hood. With the weight and heat applied the corners will relax. Let the hood cool and remove the weight and you should be fixed, if not do it over until you get where you need to be. If your not in a hurry you can do the same process but let it set in the hot sun for a few hours.

It takes quite a while for fiberglass to cure. Even then in the hot sun along with expansion/contraction from the engine heat/cooling ect. most fiberglass hoods will die back or shrink and show sanding scratches or repairs especially if the gel coat has been sanded through or removed. I have seen Corvettes die back after they were painted even after sitting for two years after they were worked/primed/prepped.

Hoods made from SMC "Sheet moulding compound" dont have the negative characteristics that fiberglass has. SMC is far stronger than fiberglass of the same thickness and has the same expansion rate as steel. It can also be baked after a new finish is applied without fear of solvent poping the clear coat like fiberglass. The tollerances for fit/finish are far better than the best fiberglass ect.

For those of you not familliar with SMC the SS/WS6 hoods, doors, rear hatch, roof cap as well as quite a few of the structural supports on a fourth gen F-body are made from SMC.

Honestly, if i could do it over, i would get the VFN 3" with heat extractors, just cause 4" you cant really see your passenger side, but then again, the 4" is SEXYYYYY

i dont make nowhere near 700 to the ground, are you calling my car rice? I love my 4" hood and i would buy it again if i had the chance. Also what persuaded me to buy this particular hood was the weight savings of about 45lbs .

I have put about 2,000 miles on my car this year, so it is not going to bother me. I won't have 700 now but will in a little while, so will that make me rice till get there?

Roger the owner of US Exotics spent an hour adjusting the hood for us when we picked up the hood from his shop. All aftermarket hoods of course as you know take some time to fit right but the VFN ones seem to not fit no matter how much time is spent adjusting.

Having said that I will agree with Sneaky7980 that the VFN ones are suffering as of late. I have seen first hand of what exactly he is talking about on another car. It seems the curves are not the same and do not flow. Like near the headlights the hood does not follow the "arch" the same as the fender. Also there were many fibers showing and the painter had to do alot of work to get the fibers not to show. The painter who also is my painter had told me about it when I dropped my car off to get the bumper painted after a minor accident. He said it was the worst quality he's ever seen.
That would be mine
