Don't buy them if there aren't pics, unless you know the guy selling them and trust him.

Did you ask specifically for 93-96 exports?
If not, then you got the right parts. If he thought you were talking LS1 Camaro he probably ordered them up with a year from 97-02... Japan got US lights those years. I have heard of folks not taking this into account and getting regular 97up lights...

Could you guys fill me in on what yall are talking about. Sorry to jump in here like this and ask, but Im intersted in knowing whats the deal with these export lenses. What are they? What makes them so rare and expensive? When did they come out with these? Why did they come out with these? What did they come on? What does Japan have to do with these lenses? Where can I get them? If I was to order some, what part#, style, year, etc. would I ask for? Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

Japan required amber turn signals on the tail lights before the US.
So, from 93-96, when our signals were red, GM had to have an amber set in Japan. The ones pictured above are that tail light.
In 97 the US cars got an amber turn signal and to keep from producing 2 amber sets, GM discontinued the original Jap design. After 96 Jap and US got the same tail lights.
Until a year or 2 ago you could still buy the Jap sets from GM here for around $200 a set. They are out now and because of Camaro sites everyone is discovering them...
Supply= None but junkyards in Japan
Demand= Through the roof due to threads like this
Price= Very high $$$
Value for the dollar= Not worth the effort

The lights above that Steve2000SS posted, there were only so many made through the years 93-96 and were discontinued after the year of 1996? How come my buddy's car ('95 Z28) has the full red lense with the clear portion for the back up light and not the yellow portion? So these lenses were made by GM and exported to Japan? If so, how did they end up back over here? The ones that GM did make for Japan use, not all of them were exported? If so, why not? So basically, GM continued making them and kept them in the US and sold the rest here until '97 when they changed the style? So there is some in the US? There is no chance in hell that I could go to one of my local dealers and ask for the '93-'96 export tail lights and they get them for me? No matter what? Are there any imitation ones? Not that I want any, but just so that if I ever come across some that look like the ones in the pic, that I dont try to offer the person $200 or whatever and screw my ownself? Will I see them on the road in the US? I ask because if I ever saw some on a Camaro, then I would try to buy them off of someone!! There were no other years they were made other than '93-'96? GM is the only manufacturer that made them? Thanks

They are exactly like the ones already on the car. Nothing is different from the 98-02 lights from what I can see. The only thing is when you take them out of the box it has a green sticker that says "export" on it.

Waaaaay too many questions! your buddys car has the 2 color lenses because his is american, not japanese, and it was made between 93-96.
The lenses are only here in the states because people either had people in japan send them here or because they flew down there and brought them back with themselves.
You could go to your dealer if you wanted and ask for the japanese 93-96 taillights but they couldn't get them. You can try though, maybe they have a source somewhere with a few sets left.
No one ever made imitations of these. If they did, the demand for them wouldn't be nearly as high and the company that made the imitations would still be making them if they liked money at all.
First you say you don't want a set and then you say if you saw some, you would try to buy them. Am I missing something here?
If you find a set, they are real, that simple

Yeah, you are missing something...when I said, "not that I want to buy any", I was referring to imitation ones if they existed. I would however buy the real import ones that GM made, but for the right price. Didnt mean to confuse you. Most likely if I do ever come across a set thats on a vehicle, that person will know what they are, wouldnt ya say? I mean, how are they going to end up with them unless they knew what was going on with them? But then again, they may not know how highly they are wanted and maybe I could buy them. I dont see why I would even try to order them from a local dealer, dont all the dealers get them from the same place? Thanks

NV....if you made it to the North West side of Houston, you would see my set on my car.....I believe that it's one of the few, if not the ONLY set here in H-Town.......

GM is the only one that made these, I've checked and re-checked, they were not subcontracted out to a second tier supplier like other parts are....go figure , the money that they could make if they just made some more, but hey, thats GM for ya.....and dealers are out of the parts as well, in my search there was only three dealers that had the left handers, and I bought 2 of them (sold the other one to Andy), called on the other one, and it's gone, so they are all dried up....but if you did score one of the last left handers, you still had to get the righty....mine came from Yokohama, Japan...direct....and at a LOT of effort and time, and money.....thats the "qwest" you undertake if you want these, and I think I was next to the last in line, and VERY LUCKY!...

your right about "knowing" what they are, I do, and I'm sure that anyone else that has them does too.....I mean, it's the only part on the car that is selling for more than what I paid for them, I would venture a guess that any other owners know the demand for them also....but, you never know.....
