pics of export taillights?????
If not, then you got the right parts. If he thought you were talking LS1 Camaro he probably ordered them up with a year from 97-02... Japan got US lights those years. I have heard of folks not taking this into account and getting regular 97up lights...

So, from 93-96, when our signals were red, GM had to have an amber set in Japan. The ones pictured above are that tail light.
In 97 the US cars got an amber turn signal and to keep from producing 2 amber sets, GM discontinued the original Jap design. After 96 Jap and US got the same tail lights.
Until a year or 2 ago you could still buy the Jap sets from GM here for around $200 a set. They are out now and because of Camaro sites everyone is discovering them...
Supply= None but junkyards in Japan
Demand= Through the roof due to threads like this
Price= Very high $$$
Value for the dollar= Not worth the effort

The lenses are only here in the states because people either had people in japan send them here or because they flew down there and brought them back with themselves.
You could go to your dealer if you wanted and ask for the japanese 93-96 taillights but they couldn't get them. You can try though, maybe they have a source somewhere with a few sets left.
No one ever made imitations of these. If they did, the demand for them wouldn't be nearly as high and the company that made the imitations would still be making them if they liked money at all.
First you say you don't want a set and then you say if you saw some, you would try to buy them. Am I missing something here?
If you find a set, they are real, that simple

GM is the only one that made these, I've checked and re-checked, they were not subcontracted out to a second tier supplier like other parts are....go figure
, the money that they could make if they just made some more, but hey, thats GM for ya.....and dealers are out of the parts as well, in my search there was only three dealers that had the left handers, and I bought 2 of them (sold the other one to Andy), called on the other one, and it's gone, so they are all dried up....but if you did score one of the last left handers, you still had to get the righty....mine came from Yokohama, Japan...direct....and at a LOT of effort and time, and money.....thats the "qwest" you undertake if you want these, and I think I was next to the last in line, and VERY LUCKY!... your right about "knowing" what they are, I do, and I'm sure that anyone else that has them does too.....I mean, it's the only part on the car that is selling for more than what I paid for them, I would venture a guess that any other owners know the demand for them also....but, you never know.....
