yea i PMed you back, but ill respond in here: i didnt test fit before painting, figured it was OEM. mine fit like that, but i tightened the nuts until the gap went away. on the drivers side it was perfect after tightening the nuts, but the passenger side was slightly off. i figure the sun/heat will help it settle over time, if not then oh well. im keeping the stock spoiler just in case i decide i dont like it over time.
I do have to say that its a HUGE let down to get an SLP oem spoiler and have it look this far off. it should just drop right in place.

The mounting pads are stuck to the stock spoiler. Should I replace those when I put the other spoiler on? Also, the pad that goes around the hole that the brake light wire goes into is stuck to the hatch. This ok?

LOL! I told you. My dad was in the garage when I was test fitting it. He asked if the hatch was different on the 1997 spoiler because he said, "That fits like ***." haha.

Wow yours looks bad....I have an RKsport one that I fitted and it was much better then that. I did have to elongate the holes in the hatch to make it fit but all was well. I picked up an SLP one now since I wanted it to have nicer bodylines......I guess I will see how it fits in the AM.

I got my spoiler sent to my body shop, and they prepped and painted it w/o a test fit. When i got it back to my house it was doing the same thing, but I fixed it by tightening the bolts back and forth just a little bit each time. After I had it all the way tightened it fit perfectly. I tried doing one side at a time and it looked the same way as yours did in the test fit pics

i tested fitted mine after reading this thread this morning and it fit fine, when the trunk was closed evrything was flush amd the gapping between the spoiler and the trunk was not bad at all,or at least no different than the stock spoiler and trunk,i should've took pics but just over tighten the bolts
