Default Rim cleanin

OK guys, my rims are all cruddied up with some black road tar and stuff cause the lady who owned the car before me didnt quite take care of it. This stuff seems to be embedded into my polished aluminum rims. Mothers polish didnt get rid of it, and Id hate to fork out money for new rims. Any suggestions?

When all else fails. Cheaper than buying new rims anyway.

*1st off I assume that they are NOT clear coated.

Try sanding them down with a high grit sand paper and then polish them with mothers. This should work, but take your time.

They probably are... if not then that will work. If they are then I would think of using 50% simple green and 50% water and try to get it off with that?

Simple green isn't acid based, so it shouldn't harm or "eat" into the rim. I'm just tring to give possible suggestions to get the stuff out without being expensive. Plus its kind of hard without being able to see it in person...

Use scotchbrite pads, they are cheap and should get the job done. You might want to buff after depending on finish you are lookin for.
