i was in autozone the other day and noticeed they have got a lot of new high temp paint . i was thinking the same thing about painting just to get a little more shine . there is one kit they had that was a mystic style color changing paint . thought about painting the intake , lid and underpiece .

I'm pretty sure you have to do the same as painting the LS plastic intake. Sanding, plastic adhesion, primer, base coat and clear.

Always clean the parts well with soap and water before beginning. This removes oils and crud that will prevent good adhesion. If the part has been Armoralled, use adhesive, bug and tar remover to break down the silicons first. Sand well using 300 grit and tack rag. Use adhesion promoter on plastic parts, or self-etching primer on metal pieces. Prime and let dry well before laying color coat. I use light 600 sanding to smooth the primer before laying color. Color coat in several light coats. Wet sanding the final color coat is ok (when dry!), but not necessary. Clear coat in several light coats. Let Clear dry for at least two days. Wet sand with 1000, then 2000 grit. Use a buffing compound for final gloss.
I get great results doing it like that.
Lots of people use Krylon Fusion for an easier job, or for small parts. It depends on how **** you are about the end-results.
