Painting engine block...
I would paint the block but not the heads.. might be a nice retro effect.. the high temp rattle can stuff has been good enough for SBS engines forever so I dont see why it wouldnt work for you .. the other option would be to have the block powder painted but that would cost quite a bit more

At least it would make your car stand out

And yeah, I might leave the heads bare and just do the block Chevy red-orange to go with the theme of my car.
Then I wouldnt do black.. TOO MUCH of a good thing

Do you have an accent color? (red, blue, etc?) If its the chevy orange than I thing that would look wicked with alum heads and matching FRC's (with black script and detail work on them)

1. Paint block orange, paint heads and valve covers black.
2. Paint block orange, leave heads bare, paint valve covers orange.
3. Paint block orange, leave heads bare, paint valve covers black.
Any photoshop gurus wanna try this? =)
I would paint the block "orange" and leave the heads and valve covers aluminum. If you plan on going with an aftermarket valve cover like ARE's or Katech's (taller ones), you could paint the block and heads "orange" and leave the valve covers aluminum. However, I wouldn't use black, orange, and aluminum. Too much.
