Default Painting engine block...

have my engine out for some repairs and I'm thinking about painting it Chevy red-orange to match my calipers and emblems. I would paint the block and heads, but leave the intake black. Or maybe just the block would be painted. Anyone done this? If so, would paint did you use? I could use that high temp rattle can stuff but I'm sure theres something better out there.

I dont know about orange, it might stand out a lil too much. Black would look good though. Its no point in painting our blocks because theyre aluminum ad wont rust, But if you have a SBC or a 6.0 block id say go for it. That ratte can stuff is basicly the norm for painted blocks.

I was going to go with the VHT Flameproof Flat Red on my block when it comes back from the machine shop, and leave the heads bare but do the valvecovers or polish them. I will be painting my intake manifold though, I hate looking at that black thing all the time.

what color is your car?

I would paint the block but not the heads.. might be a nice retro effect.. the high temp rattle can stuff has been good enough for SBS engines forever so I dont see why it wouldnt work for you .. the other option would be to have the block powder painted but that would cost quite a bit more

At least it would make your car stand out

Take a wild guess what color my car is

And yeah, I might leave the heads bare and just do the block Chevy red-orange to go with the theme of my car.

DOH!!

Then I wouldnt do black.. TOO MUCH of a good thing

Do you have an accent color? (red, blue, etc?) If its the chevy orange than I thing that would look wicked with alum heads and matching FRC's (with black script and detail work on them)

That accent color (I guess it's Chevy Orange) would look really good on just the block and and polish the valvecovers. Get some FRC's painted to match. This would make your car stand out even more. It already stands out enough just being an F-Body. Can I see a full size pic of the car, I was looking to get the same wheels and badges.

I think It'd look good. If you leave the heads natural, what about the valve covers? Would you paint those to match the block and leave the natural metal in between?

I'm not quite sure what I'd do just yet. I have a few options:

1. Paint block orange, paint heads and valve covers black.
2. Paint block orange, leave heads bare, paint valve covers orange.
3. Paint block orange, leave heads bare, paint valve covers black.

Any photoshop gurus wanna try this? =)

I vote #3, but definitely leave the heads bare. They looks great the way they are.

What about having the heads polished? Is that a possibility or would it just be too much maintenance for them to keep looking good? Just a thought.I think that would look

Whatever you do. Don't get too carried away. Usually, less, is better. IMO.

I would paint the block "orange" and leave the heads and valve covers aluminum. If you plan on going with an aftermarket valve cover like ARE's or Katech's (taller ones), you could paint the block and heads "orange" and leave the valve covers aluminum. However, I wouldn't use black, orange, and aluminum. Too much.
