swapping steering wheels....
swapping steering wheels.... i bought an 01-02 camaro steering wheel/airbag to repalce my 98 one.
is there is a write up on how do it? i know i have to borrow a pulley at a local car parts store.
but how hard is it? on a scale of 1-10?

I looked at doing this myself. its basicly 1 wire. you have to have the ring from the newer car and run the wire to the radioand plug it in to the back of the radio. the wire sends diff volt for each button. not sure if all radios have the control in side to do this. thats why i didnt do this yet. check the radio sec and do a search it on there and what pin to look for. i think you need the newer radio. let me now how this works out for you if you do it

my 98 wheel has a crack in it, i have a 02 wheel off of a v6 and it doesnt have any buttons for the radio on it but i havent installed it yet. there is a write up on it, just do a search for steering wheel removal.
basically disconnect the battery, pull the fuse out for the air bags, there are like 4 allen or torx screwsholding the bag to the wheel, take them out and the bag comes out. disconnect the wires from the bag and then use the steering wheel removal tool to take off the old wheel

Yes - it's not that hard.
1st - disconnect battery (thats a always)
2nd - remove air bag fuse
3rd - if you'll take your hands and run them behind the steering wheel, you'll feel two holes about finger size. there are two torx head screws in the holes. Remove them - sorry do not remember the size. The air bag will now lift off the steering wheel.
4th - disconnect the wiring harness for the air bag and radio controls.
5th - get a socket (sorry don't remember size) that will fit the large nut in the center. I used a impact to remove it as it was easier to use and I didn't have to fight with the steering wheel wanting to turn.
6th - get a steering wheel puller and install the 2 long bolts that are with the puller into the holes in the steering wheel. Turn the screw on the puller until the wheel pops off.

I just did this in my 93. I didn't look anything into it before I did it and I had no trouble. Like said before Unplug battery - take out fuse - remove 4 (in some cases 2 i believe) torx screws - Unplug airbag - take off center bolt on wheel - hook up steering wheel puller (the one i used had 2 screws in the side to hold the puller in place, and then you tightened the center screw to push against the column, this in turn pulled up the steering wheel...you might have to really crank on this thing, mine was in there really good). Once the wheel is off, put the new one on and all you have to do is tighten the center nut, plug everything back in in reverse order and you're good to go.
I did one a few years ago with a friend. Put a '00 on a '99. If I recall the airbag was different and you need a newer one. Besides that, it's not bad. If it was up to me I'd lose the bag and add a nice Momo one.
had to bump this again. i put a 00+ wheel and airbag in my car and the harness for the airbag to plug into is different on the 98 than the 00, so now i have an air bag light on. does anyone know what i need to do to hook up the 00 airbag onto the 98 airbag harness?
