Steve? Progress on the Z069 Camaro?
Thanks again
Mike
Am I right about the x-11 though?
327ci engines came in base model '68 Camaros. There were actually a few base model 69 Camaros made with that engine, but they swapped mid-production to the 307ci for the base model V8. My first '69 Camaro was a base model 327ci car.
"X11" does not guarantee the car is an SS. X11 just meant "Style Trim Group", which could have been a base model with the chrome fender trim and window/headlight trim (most likely). There were a few SS-350s with the X11 code, but most of the ones you see out there now are just fakes. Possible X11 cars:
-base model 6-cylinder with chrome fender/headlight/rain gutter trim
-base model 8-cylinder with chrome fender/headlight/rain gutter trim
-base model 6-cylinder with RS hidden headlight package
-base model 8-cylinder with RS hidden headlight package
-SS-350 with chrome fender/headlight/rain gutter trim
-SS-350 with RS hidden headlight package
All real X11 SS-350s came with a factory 12-bolt (except some powerglide 2-spd tranny cars), front power disk brakes, 3 turn lock-to-lock steering gearbox, and multi-leaf rear leaf springs.

My car:

I actually wanted a non-numbers matching car since I was going to mess with it so much..
Steve, there are a few other visual hints about SS's. The SS's had factory dual exhausts, and this required an additional exhaust hanger welded to the driver's side of the frame on the back over the axle. Non-SS/Z28s only had a factory hanger on the passenger side.
-- Not that it would bother me to chop up a real SS either, not like a base 350 SS was all that rare. I can't tell you how many "real" 69 Z28's I see with automatic transmissions
The differences in prices between an SS and a base model, in the same condition, is only about $2-3K in value for a '69 Camaro. If they both have numbers matching longblocks, that value difference approaches $5K though. But, since you will probably never sell your 69 to a collector of "authentic" cars, it really doesn't matter. But, I could always get bored in my old age and return my 69 back to all-stock and do a numbers "era" match restoration and go that route. Not likely though

Only 10% of the 69 Z/28's came with the cowl hood stock. Most had a flat hood.
I think all 69 Z's were manual steering.
A stock SS hood for 1969 would have had the fake porthole setups on the hood...
My old 69 Z/28 was Lemans blue, M21, with 3.73 gears. Original paint.
I really appreciate your guys help, I am learning a lot by this.
-- issues prevented him from finising it up. Only 150 miles on it since it was put back together!!I already have a TON of stuff ordered for it including billet valve covers, Covans dash (with guages), more exterior brightwork, brakes, etc.
Im going to TRY and see if I like having an auto trans but if not then it will be getting a 5 speed OD Tremec trans set-up

Looks like John put a lot of quality work into the car and I hope to kick it up a few notches.
Car was loaded onto the enclosed trailer this morning for its journey west.. I should get it by this Friday!!!

Also thanks for giving me first dibs on the export tail lamps. You're right about people not really noticing the difference between the U.S. versions. I do get more stares at my rear now but they just can't figure out what's different. lol!
Right now the car has powder painted a-arms and new polygraphite bushings so that will do.. next would be tubular A-arms and MAYBE a coilover kit..
HyperSS - Glad you like the lights.. get the bulbs switched around??

I will try the TH350 the car has and see how its street and freeway manners are. If I like it then I have $3000 more to blow on other parts of the car. If I dont like then I will get a 5 speed Tremec with 5th gear OD..

Is it Friday yet?????????

But it will retain the ID tag that shows it as an 1LE car.
That is a very sharp '69. Wish I had the money to pull off something like you are doing. Excellent project
