Question cutting off headlight bumps...?

Ok i dont know what to call them. but there the plastic **** on the headlights from when the do the mold injection. I have seen some people cut them off and sand them and it looks awesome. I go tired of searching so... if anyone has done this give me some tips please!

also I'm going to try and save the headlights they've done the typical foging and yellowing crap so any tips on polishing them up (brands recomended to use) would be great

thanks

It's in the sticky!

https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearance-detailing/157192-fixed-my-yellow-cracked-headlight-today-pics.html

Read the whole thing...there is a guy in there who shaved his bumps off.
The novus 3 part polishing compounds are the best to use on the headlights.

I used a dremel. I put a cut off wheel on it and took out as much as I could with that then I used one of the drum sanders with a fine grit sander. After i got them knocked down and smoothed out flat I started sanding with 600 then 1000, 1500, 2000.

Mine are pretty bad too. I done several before and the novus works great...you won't regret buying it. I'm debating on clear coating mine this time instead of using the novus. My only concern with that is you can't find a decent clear in a spray can.

If you sanded down ALL of the yellow and little surface spider web cracks AND use the Novus, they should stay clear for 1-2 years depending on the weather and how often you wash the car (and what you wash it with).

I wash my car all the time. I just go to the local car wash though.

What weather hurts them the most?

Extreme sunlight exposure and harsh washing detergents will shorten the life of the polished lens.

Mine are in the oven right now...doing the whistler mod. I'm just going to polish them quick with meguiers for now. I think I'll try and clear them this summer when I have access to my friend's paint booth.

to remove mine I started with a small hacksaw and removed the majority, then I went to a file, then sandpaper, and then kind of "evened" them out with the rest of the headlight as I sanded it....not too hard

^yeah I went super slow with the hacksaw, and I also put tape all over the lense in case I slipped.... the filing is even more risky....the tape was a lifesaver
