Default Idea for a shifter boot for my A4

I really don't like the plastic sliding things in my shifter for my automatic, but I also don't like the look of a leather shifter boot all bunched up underneath the ****. I was thinking about what it would look like if you cut out around the entire thing (around the numbers and letters as well) to make it look similar to the TrailBlazer SS shifter boot.

Do you guys think there would be any way to cut out that area and still have that "stock" look to it?

Something like that.

Yea it would look good if you had a ring that covered up the cut area where the boot and the plastic met up like on the trailblazer

But then it would have the gear tracks like the m6 does. Are the guiding tracks for the shift **** in the console or farther down into the tranny?

I cut the shifter plate like you outlined and removed stock A4 ****, replaced **** with slp logo M6 **** with adapter with a shiftboot, gear indicators are gone but no big deal, when other people look inside they think its an M6.

Further down, there isn't anything in the M6 console that should stop you.

I think it will look good, I've seen them with the gear selection numbers still showing and it didn't look bad as well. Like others have said use a M6 center

From what I can see in this picture, it looks like the area where the shifter would be is more towards the front of the car (the ash tray and the shifter are switched around). Would that still work with the A4 shifter? Don't pay any attention to the red circle, it was pointing out a crack in the console.

I did it on my stock shifter plate. I cut out the gear selector thing, basically the outlined part. Tried to make one out of fake leather, didn't turn out that great (I suck at sewing for real). I couldn't get the top of the boot where it meets where the shifter to sit flush /tight. I'm gonna just end up getting an m6 shift plate and boot (it's like $40 from the dealer).

Too bad you have a 97 and newer car, I have 2 auto plates that I need to get rid of.

But reguarding your post I think it looks good now, but if you made it look like an M6 style shifter I think it would look better. Just cut it out, round the edges and then add some plastic trim, like the crap you can get at autozone that goes around your door edges to trim it out and give it a clean line (not your doors your console ). Glue in your boot from underneith and your done.

Keep us updated on what you end up doing

The picture that i posted in the first post was not my car, I found it on google. I could cut it out with a dremel around the shift indicator and everything like i outlined in my first post but i would be afraid to do it on the only console that i have. i may try to get one from a junk yard or something and see i if i can make it look ok.

im thinking you would probably able to get into D at most, probly not into 1 or 2. worst came to worse you would cut the m6 console and buy another shift boot

you should ask someone who has a manual how far the back of the back of the opening (by the ash tray) is from the cigaratte lighter hole. that will tell you all you need to know after you measure how far away drive is in your own car.
