Broke shifter clip!!

Broke shifter clip!! Surely someone has done this before:
My Auto shifter has been rattling and wobbiling for the last while and started to annoy me.
Decided to take the shifter off to have a look at it.
The clip at the front of the shifter was missing, but still could not get the **** off. Decided the smaller clip under the spring loaded button must be holding it on....broke it removing it the button popped out.
Then discovered all i needed to do was give the shifter a really hard pull to get it off...dam
So ive now got a shifter missing the front retaining clip and the button on the side will not stay in cause ive broke the other smaller retaining clip/staple.
Anyone got any ideas what to use as an alternative? Im looking round my garage trying to find an answer.

B&M makes adapters that you put on and screw a manual trans shifter on. To shift you just push the **** down. I have the B&M adapter with a Hurst T-Handle ****. I also recommend shortening the stick while you have it apart. Swat
