Default Zaino for first time.....

OK, I am going to be searching the boards for tips, advice and shared experiences on Zaino. I am a believer just by what I have heard and the little that I have seen. My car is Pewter, so I am looking forward to the difference I will see. I wouldn't exactly say that this car has had a pampered life before I bought her last year, so she deserves some attention.

This is what I have purchased so far, hopefully I did not screw up and get something I didn't need.

* Z18 Claybar
* Z7 Wash
* Z6 gloss enhancer
* Z2 polish
* Z5 polish
* Zfx polish

Like I mentioned above, I will start reading posts to get the majority, just drop me a line here if there is something obvious I am missing. I will be sure to post up some pictures of my progress!!

PS - I also heard that I should use Dawn dishwashing soap first..... do I still need to do this using the Z7? I cannot even imagine how much gunk the claybar will bring out of this paint......

Thanks, Rick

It is always a good idea to get as much off as you can by using Dawn first. Obviously, it isn't something you want to do every time you wash the car. The Zaino website has all the basics and some good tips on usage. I have been using it for a few years now and I love it. If you have any specific questions then PM me. BTW - do you have a Porter Cable or other type of buffer?

I have a Craftsman, 10 inch buffer, will that be ok?

I am surprised, I figured it was hand job only.....

A porter cable will work better for removing swirls. Apply Zaino sealants by hand mixing ZFX for the first coat. Thin is the way to go. You should barely see it going on.

I ordered the Zaino Show Kit a month or so ago and polished the bird a few weeks ago. All I gotta say is Oh MY GOD!!!! This stuff is amaizing and I just used elbow grease and no buffer. The polish took out all the swirl marks easy and the finish looked amazing and better than when she was new. +1 for the Zaino as I will def recommend it to anyone now and it is well worth the high price. Good luck and post up some pics of your car after you finish. FYI - The zaino show wash is also great and the car looked amazing after just using their car wash.

Random orbital is the way to go. I think yours would be fine, just keep it on LOW speed. Do you have pads and such? Lake Country sells some pretty good combo kits if you need. The Zaino PC scratch remover (green stuff) works well for minor surface scratches and marring.
I just saw that you are in Ocala, my wife's family lives up the road from you in Island Grove. Nice area!

Ah, I went to zaino's site and i'm guessing you do the dawn ultra wash, claybar, put the bonding agent on, use the buffer for the Z2, remove that, and then buff the Z5, and then your done? Do you need to do multiple coats orrrrr...
Pinky i think you need the ZAIO to use as a bonding agent before you use the polish.. go to zainostore.com and click application, on part 2 you'll see what I mean.

No! Don't use the buffer for the Z2 or Z5. That is a HUGE waste of product. USe the supplied microfiber applicators to put on the polishes. The Z-PC Fusion is the swirl and scratch remover that is used with a buffer.

Also-
The sequence I usually use is:
1) Wash
2) Clay
3) Wash to remove clay
4) Dry
5) Buff with PC if necessary. I don't have to do it that often since I maintain my surfaces pretty scratch free by using microfiber towels and a grit trap in my wash bucket.
6) Light polish with white pad to ensure no haze or extremely light swirls.
7) Z5 with ZFX
8) Wait around awhile for it to cure
9) Wait some more - then wipe down
10) Z2 with ZFX
11) See 8 and 9
12) Z2 and overnight cure

Multiple coats if you have the time are the way to go with Zaino.
Hope this helps guys. Feel free to ask away.

I just use a little bit of Z-PC Fusion with a light water mist with a white pad (white meaning least abrasive). This cleans up the surface for your application of actual polish (sorry about the confusion - typically a white pad is called a polish pad).

Zaino doesn't have to be overly complicated. You could slap som ZAIO on and call it a day and it will look good. Do good prep work and remove the swirls and top ZAIO with Z2pro or CS and be prepared to be blown away. Zaino is the shitzu.
