I had a code alarm system. It sucked.

Probibly one of the worst on the market. It was just a huge POS!

I could open my doors (didnt have power locks) and it wouldnt even go off. I made it as sensative as it could go too!

Then, to disarm it, I literally needed to be within 10 feet of my car, or hold it down for like 10 seconds if I wanted to unlock it from a little farther distance.

It was horrible! I'm never going to get one again.

Mine is Stock with the alarm portion disabled and a resistor installed so the VATS system is basically bypassed. I'm not worried if someone wants the car they will get it regardelss of what alarm is on the car. Alarms won't stop anyone from stealing your stereo it just means they will rip the **** out of your car 10x worse as they pry bar and hammer everything out to get out of the car asap. It won't even stop car theft.. anyone can get a full size pickup and a vehicle recovery under lift on the back with that any car you want is yours in 30 seconds or less.

I have a Viper and it's the best thing IMO! Bright Blue LED (exclusive to Viper/Directed), Starter Kill (can't hotwire either, had a couple of buddies try and failed!), Vehicle Recovery System, so if I were to get jacked at an intersection (highly doubtful in my area) just push a button and if the thief makes off with my car...10 sec later the full alarm blast goes off and the only way to shut it off is by putting my code in on the reset button in the car! I can also set the sensitivity of the alarm through the key fob, and the best part.....I will never lock my keys in because I have gotten so used to hitting the lock/arm button on the key fob that If I were to leave my keys in, I will know right after closing the door!

Plus, no one has yet to **** with my car since getting it a few years back! My old car, people would **** with it all the time!!

I have stock atm.. looking into what I should get.
You shouldn't worry about the Lojack, with "not having enough time to realize my car is gone" kinda thing. If you pay the extra ($200 i think?) you get an early warning system. Its like a key fob kinda deal in BMW's, only I think it might be a card you carry with you. The lojack senses the card in your car, so it knows that YOUR in there and its okay.. If that card isnt sensed in the car and the vehicle is started, moved, or whatever, it calls you, texts you, emails you, and I think 2 other ways.. So thats not bad.

np bro. it cost me a lot and i probably paid more than i should have. but i was in a bind time wise and just wanted it done right away. i paid $1,600 total. i had them install every option available besides the auto start (it's a manual). theres a lot of options available. it's $100 per year for the gps system and i think they offer discounts if you do more than one year at a time. everything is very simple and easy to use. the digital readout is cool because it shows you exactly whats happening when the alarm goes off. i'd recommend this security system to anyone.

Well I had a Viper alarm system in me car, but after my buddies car was stolen withe the same style alarm I went back to using the stock system. Here was the reasoning behind that decsion. After the car was recovered the Officer that was doing the investigation said the thiefs have somthing called a code reader that reads the codes of the alarm system and can disarm the alarm with out lying a finger on the car. Also the alarm had the auto start feature on it so it made it easier to steal. My factory alarm has not failed me, Knock on wood and plus the car stays inside. The shock sensor has been replaced and that is the only thing that has been replace since 96. But lets come to earth on the whole theft idea. If a thief want your car or anything inside it they will find a way to get it, it is how much they want to risk doing it. Alarms help but only faction.

That sucks that your car got jacked! Did you talk to Viper/Directed? They back up their products and cover the cost of damage done to or full blue book value replacement of your vehicle in the event that your vehicle gets stolen while having their system installed! How I know this is that I had spoke with a representative from Viper/Directed and thats their policy. They cover up to $100,000......that is one of the reasons I went with their alarm!
You are right on the money about if a thief wants your car, they will find a way to get it...if they want it bad enough, but it is good to know you are covered and not just from your insurance company!

It varies from place to place. I bought mine from a place called Quality Auto Sound and had them install, their policy is that if you buy from them, it is $1 to install. I had gotten a deal on top of that because I knew somebody who worked there, in the end it cost me a total of $400 and some change on a system that had cost over $900. So it helps if you know somebody and can get a deal.
Just call around and get quotes from various places that sell car alarms or stereos, and find the best place deal wise and reputation.

Well that is great to know about the Viper, but it wasn't my car that got stolen and plus the that car was found like five bbocks down te street with a broken driver window. I guess they don't know how to drivew astick or got fed up with trying.
Is there a specifed time frame for that covering. Cause my viper system is old. I might start using it again if that policy is like a life time, But if it al fails like everyone else having a Remmington Defendor Shotgun works just as good/.

As far as I know, their coverage is Lifetime! I bought my system in '05 and they stated that their policy has been the same for years, so my guess is that eventhough your system might be old, it is still however covered! If your friend had a Viper installed at the time those assclowns stole it and busted the window, that would be covered by Viper/Directed and even if your friend didn't have Insurance, Viper/Directed would still comp the cost of anything that was damaged and or stolen.

It's your call on which to go with, though depending on where you are located the Shotgun approach might be a little much, though you might be better off with a Desert Eagle .45 (one big *** m.f gun), otherwise I would put the Viper back into your car.......though like I said, its your choice!

Just my .08 (due to current inflation)

Well right now, the Viper 7900 and the Viper 160XVL with Venom SST Technology is the best to get, I have the 1st version of the 5900! Do some research on the 7900, I know that it has a Full Color OLED Display and all the other features like Remote Start etc...

If I've researched correctly, the Mid-Upper Level alarms are covered with a Lifetime Coverage, the entry level ones are covered by a limited coverage.

just put so many mods on your car that someone will not figure out how to start it and if they do they still will not figure out how to drive it, problem solved.

Yeah, but they could still steal all of your **** that you put on without you knowing! So pretty much all the money you spent on mods to prevent thieves from stealing your car, you could have gotten a decent alarm and if they were bold enough to try and jack the **** in your car, at least you will know and maybe try to prevent it!

Alarms however are not always full proof, they are just deterrents! Just like the old show "It Takes A Thief", they say that most thieves see an alarm (whether on a car or home) and they will go to the next to try and find one that doesn't have an alarm, cause they don't want to risk it.
