Default Claybar, who as ACTUALLY done it?

I am in the process of doing a black Z28, mine.

Do you guys do the whole car? Or just from the beltline(door mouldings) up?

I dont see where there would be a need from the mouldings down. Or is there?

I went and bought a GOOD $30 claybar today along with 3m Imperial hand glaze(AWESOME STUFF) to take care of the fine scratches.

The 1/2 claybar I was given started to come apart on me using soapy water.

Will post pics after I am completely done.

And advice appreciated.

David

When you get the kit cut the bar in half use half now save the other for later. I use mothers clay bar system about 3 times a year, and i use it on the whole car.

I've used mothers and the meguires and both worked great. I did the entire car, from top to bottom. Work only on one panel at a time.

It's very important to polish/wax the car when you finish claying or the paint will have 0 protection from the elements. Do one panel at a time when claying. It's up to you whether or not you want to clay the whole car but I always do. Think about the road grime that the bottom half of your car sees. It needs it just as much as the rest of the car IMO.

Out of any section of the car, the bottom is probably the most important to get. Your wheels/tires kick up all sorts of things on the lower panels of the car, from water, grease on the road to tireshine from your tires. I would make sure to do the whole car, and the rocker panels if you can.

Do the whole car, a panel at a time, as others have said. I'll think you'll be surprised how much trash you'll pull out of the paint on the upper surfaces, too...

I've used clay bars for years, mainly while working at dealerships. We typically did the entire car. It's worth it and makes an dramatic difference.

Agreed.

These are old pics, but you get the idea: https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearance-detailing/358966-full-menzerna-pics-56k-begone.html

I clay the whole car once or twice a year, before I do a full polish and re-seal. Now that I've used one, I understand how important it is. I have picked all kinds of crud out of my paint that a simple wash would have never caught.

Claying is definitely worth the time it takes you. Like other's have said, the bottom is the most important to get with the clay. hopefully your not using soap as water as the lubricant for the clay. Most kits discourage from that. Actually every one I've seen does. That's why the kits come with a quick detailer. This is the process I did this weekend:

Wash with Dawn dish soap to remove old wax, clayed a section at a time (though my dad volunteered to help when I was home so that was nice), sprayed it down and dried it to remove the detailer, then waxed it. I have a thread up with the results.

I clay mine once every two years (which is like 8K miles).

Entire car.
Wash, clay, spray down with 50/50 alcohol/water mix, light cut, polish, wax.

I agree w/ this. the soapy water deteriorates the clay more quickly.

I did mine a week or so ago, I posted the results on here for it, The car was already pretty clean, and while doing the clay baring, I really didn't notice a difference. As in the clay taking stuff off the top layer paint. Mostly just hard water spots....

The one thing I try to avoid doing is washing any of my cars with Dawn.

The clay will remove wax, or the cleaner wax/polish will. This is assuming that if you are claying you will be polishing and waxing afterwards.

My only complain about the claybar is its to small, or atleast the bar that came with the mothers kit i bought, with my big hands its so easy to drop...

I wish it was actually shaped like a soap bar

You can do a quick clay by doing it while you wash. Not as good as bar and lube.
