Weather stripping question

Does anyone have any thoughts on what is the best method to preserve weather stripping? I have T-tops and hope to minimize the leaking. I have heard everything from vasoline to silicone oil, but I know some things may degrade the rubber over time. Any thoughts??

Don't use either of those products.

Meguairs has a very nice rubber/vinyl cleaner/protectant. I use it on the rubber for my hatch and doors, works great.

The owners manual recommends a silicone based GM product. I don't remember the part number off hand, but it is listed in the manual. I have used it on my weather stripping, and have had no problems. While I do not have t-tops, my concern was the rear hatch area.

I try to stay away from anything silicone. I know there are some types that are helpful and some that harm but I don't know the difference so I stick with a water based product all together.

The only advantage I see with a silicone base if you wont have to apply the product so often. I did apply the Meguiars product once and it has been over a month and I drove the car 3 times in the rain and I don't see a need to apply anymore product.

I have a gallon of the Meguiars product, if you were to send a small bottle I would send you some free. No way I can use a gallon, even within 2-3 years..
