also want to know on the best way to remove tint. My car has 35% on it and i want too remove it so i can get 5 or 15 done. The tint shoop charges way too much to remove so i'd like to do it myself to save some money.... want to tackle it the easiest way. Thanks!

^^^^pretty sure all stock window tint is 20%. I got a quote on my back window and it was 125....Then I learned how to tint and it cost me next to nothing.

Here is a question though....What can I do to take my really old tint off the back window? Since it is going to leave a really really bad residue of glue on the window, how do I go with taking that off, without messing up the rear defrost. Taking the tint its self off wont be a problem. I am just worried cause when I re did the side windows there was a bunch of glue, so I just took it off with a razor blade and windex. But I know it wont work on the rear without messing up the defrost.

Thanks!

If the tint is fairly new it just pick at one of the corners and pull it slowly. Then use a razor blade and windex to take the glue off.

If the tint is old, use a heat gun and do the same method but heat up the tint just before you pull it off, so heat is as you pull.

Hope that helps. Sorry OP, just thought I would throw my $.02 in there.

Where can you get the good window tint from? I did my truck with the murrays stuff and it turned out well except for the little tiny like brail marks in some spots. Ive heard 3m makes real nice tint. Where can you get the good stuff in a big enough roll to do the rear hatch with a single piece? Thanks!

I use to use the Murrays stuff too, but if hold it up to a light it has a bluish tint to it, vs nice charcoal look. You should be able to go to any tint shop and aks them for some. Alot of the places will cut you a piece big enough for your rear hatch.

I personally get a 100ft roll on ebay. Last quite sometime and if you get pulled over you can just cut yourself some and put it back on.....lol

i just measured, it seems as if you will need a minimum 40" wide roll to do the rear hatch.

Also, how do places that tint professionally cut so straight? I looked on my windows and the lines on the tint are perfect....

On another note.... any comments on this?

do what mcalus said use razor blades and windex or sometimes with ammonia eats through the glue without hurting your interior.

Now trick of the trade: back windows with defroggers

Method 1: go to your local hardware store and ask for some glass safe steel wool I think its called 40 something press as hard as you want without hurting your defrogger scratch the glass.

*** Method 2: take a large black trash spray your windex on the outside of the back window, cut your trash bag open so if fits the window with one layer (still on the outside), with a light on the inside cut it to the shape of the window, spray the inside of the glass with Dirtex or Windex heavy on the spray, now take your trash bag spread it out on the inside like tint.... make sure all of the tint is covered turn the car on turn ,the defrogger and heat as high as it will go, sit for 20min or so and......it has been my experience everytime I have done this the tint/glue will peel right off no blading just burnen gas

superman09
straight lines? practice,practice, practice

jts98z28
t-tops are @20%..... I charge $160 for TA's-Camaro's some Mustangs whole thing or $60 for 2 windows and $100 for back glass.

For all: I use Johnsons Window Films I have never used anything else, one roll 40" x 100' is @ $200 that will tint about 10 cars.....just remember you usually get what you pay for

ws6 00
20% will make the 5% alot darker but 5% on 5% is insane

Hope I answered everybody Thanks for the imput guys

Well, im kinda worried. lol....I had some OLD tint on my beater when i bought it (90 probe GL) for whatever its worth, i mean this stuff was on there FOREVER, well when I took it off the back it ripped my defrost off with it. I wasnt too worried on that car cause it didn't work in the first place, but i dont really want that happen on the Camaro what do u suggest?

if the tint is purple and not peeling and your defroster works I would suggest the trash bag method if it doesn't get hot enough you might have to use some steel wool or blade the nondefroster part. I never drive mine in winter so I didn't need the defroster so I scraped mine

I don't know how old it was but my dad and I pulled off his tint from the TA he just bought. The tint came off easy the glue on the other hand did not. Goo gone work great on it, I just spayed it on, let it sit for 15 sec and scrubed it with a sponge. Took awhile but came off quicker than when I only had rubbing alcohol.

you guys use some weird ways of stripping back windows. use a white (softest) scotch brite pad. i use an actual tint remover but anything of the likes will soften the glue then use a scotch pad to agitate the glue and then repeat and squeegy it off.

back windows suck to strip no matter what though.

i use a Llumar film and it is lifetime warranty!

When I took my tint of my doors, it came off alright but left glue everywhere. I also used goo gone. I put it on a paper towel, scrubbed my window.. used more as needed. then I got a sponge and dipped it in a bucket of soapy water and scrubbed my window. Everything was gone

how do automakers put the tint inside the glass? does anyone still do this? I think that would be nice, as my tint gets streaks on it from the window going up and down.

this is true. some films the manufacturers will warranty differently. usually it's the cheaper died films that carry a 3 year or so. this stuff generally fades a small amount after 3-5 years i've found.

I use a film that is died as well but it had a lifetime warranty as it is a much better quality film.

i want to remove the rear window tint and wondering if this would work good: at work i deal with glue all day long and cleaning it off rollers so i already know the best stuff to use to get it off easy and fast is a bucket or very warm almost hot water, a scrub pad and some simplegreen, my quesiton would this work well for my back window? i don't have a rear defogger so i don't have to worry about that.

the other thing is i have a lifetime warranty for my tint and in theory should i be able to go to the place and have them strip it away for no charge
