Custom Fuel Rail Covers, in progress...
Whelp, I finally got sick and tired of people asking me "is that a Corvette motor" so I am doing some custom work to my fuel rail covers...
I have the '97 black/red Corvette FRC's, which I previously painted all white (which looked cool, but still had the Corvette logo visible).
So, here's what I've started on... I took a cone shaped sanding bit and dremelled out the "Corvette" logo on the covers, roughed it up nicely and got down under the red paint that filled the letters. I then meticulously picked out all the little pieces of black plastic. I filled the dremeled area with Bondo, and sanded it down flat. There were a couple of spots that airbubbled on the first application, so I filled them in with a second coat of Bondo and re-sanded. I touched the final product up with some gel coat to fill in the pinholes and finish it, and gave them a final sanding last night with 220/600 grit. They look really funky right now, lol, but are smooth to the touch across the filled spots.
I plan to spray them with several coats of primer, gloss white, and clear coat this weekend. I have some dark blue "TransAm" and "RamAir" decals from Firebat on order that I will apply to them for the finishing touch... Should be done and have some pics in a week or two... I left the raised "5.7 L" and raised stripes on them too, which should look cool.
More to come !

Re: Custom Fuel Rail Covers, in progress...
I've been working on them off and on for a couple of weeks (not much free time lately). I'd guesstimate the following :
- dremel out old logo and prep (1.5 hr)
- fill w/bondo and sand (2 hours), repeat if needed
- apply gel coat and sand (2 hours)
- primer/paint/clearcoat (5 hrs) mostly drying time
Hope that helps... Just rough guesses of course. I've taken my time working on these (not by choice, been really busy). I did the dremeling one day, bondo/sand on two days (two applications), gel/sand one day, and will probably primer/paint/clearcoat them in one day. It would probably be a rush job to try to finish them in one day...
Good luck, I'll post pics when I can...
Peace,

Thanks BadAss30th!
I redid them recently to try something different, but I might go back to the red as I plan on doing some more work to the interior.
there is shot of the new look here

YOOFORMULA yours were the original ones that gave me the idea, I remember seeing them a while back... Sweet and very customized.
Firechicken, yours look great too ! Very nice work.
You guys used Bondo as well ?
I painted them white yesterday and they look great ! Very smooth, only a few imperfections (hey, I'm an amateur at this !). I am waiting for the Firebat decals (TransAm and RamAir) to arrive so I can slap those on there and apply some clear coat.
I'll shoot pics when they're all finished. I think they'll look kicka$$ !
