Default Slow power window :(

Anyone get their window motors replaced under warranty for becoming slow? My drivers side is now slow and sounds like it's gonna die

Just wondering before I go to the dealer asking for them to replace the motor.

<---me and the Dealer maybe?

I went through this already. You don't need a new motor. You can fix this yourself and save yourself the grief of dealing with the dealer. Pop off the door panel and spray the track with silicone spray. Fixed. Done. No dealer bullshit! Trust me, this works!!!

I got the slow window mod...

I'm eventually going to take it into the dealer...

The worst thing you can do to them is to shut the doors when the windows aren't rolled all the way up...thats really tough on them...

racer88: make sure you check the rubber seal at the rear of the door where the window goes into the door. This has a tendancy to roll over when you lower the window and cause a big drag against the window/motor (because it's smashed between the glass and door jamb). Also, silicon grease on all of the weatherstripping around the door jamb that contacts the glass will help a lot.

He, he. Yup. I lost my driver's side window motor this summer. Figured out how to fix it and prevent the passenger's side from doing the same. I'm burning about 3/4 quart of oil per 3,000 miles. You about the same?

Hey Rom, as far as the oil thing is concerned I just got mine changed today. It was down a qt and a half. But, I went 3700 miles and the car has been to the track 4 times since (12+ passes) been dyno'd (3 WOT pulls) and has been driven kinda hard here and there. I am using Valvoline Synpower now 10W30.

The consumption that GM is aware of according to them is using a qt every 400-600 miles. I do not think rings is the problem for the slight consumption I or you have.

Alot of WOT and shifts over 3200 RPM and of course it's being sucked up under the intake. My boyfriend does alot of LS6 intake swaps, heads, cam and header installs and every single intake he has pulled is soaked w/ oil. That seems to be where it is going.

Other than that, got 20K of no problems on this car and it dyno'd an amazing 334 RWHP the last time w/ just a lid

How's yours doing?

It's a good idea your changing yours out. Mine started out slow and then one day just died on me. When I took my car to the dealership before they said that was normal, yea right. I wish I would have fought with them a little more. It sucks going through a drivethrough when you window doesn't work.

Other than the power window problems I can't complain. Car runs great. I'm not happy about the 3/4 qt. per 3,000 miles (my '99 A4 only used maybe 1/4 qt. in 3,000), but this seems to be within the norm for these cars.

I would check and fill your oil more often. You don't want to be spinnin' 6,000+ RPM's with these engines if you're down 1 1/2 quarts!
