Nice Firebird:
And the most interesting picture:
"Very rare 1983 Targa Trans am, this was a dealer option that was not around for long. I have been told only a little more than 1,000 of these were ever made"

HOLY @#$^$&$#@%! I just fell in love with the Targe top on a hardtop camaro. I have always been bugged about my hard top being red like my car, and I also don't like how on T-Tops, you can see the big rubber sealants to stop leakage, and I've always wanted a way to get my roof black, with the ugly rubber things, and that is it RIGHT THERE!
Is there a way you can take it to a shop, and they can do it professionally? Cause I sure as hell can't do that on my own.

More thirdgens:
And check this link out:
http://www.firebirdtransamparts.com/...tops/candc.htm
It seems to be the 3rd gens have the same roof as ours and that link appears to be a writeup on how to do a targa top conversion!

Weird. I don't have them saved on my computer. I linked the photo straight from the website posted earlier in the thread and at the bottom of my post 25.
I can see them through Firefox and Internet Explorer.
What happens when you guys go to that web page?
So you know, my links look like this:
http://pff.hostkansas.com/pffimages2/targa_TA_1_1.jpg
but with the image code around them. Just showing I didn't link to the hard drive or anything

Fold down the backseat and bam, you have a place for the targa!
Unfortunately for me, I'm working on a rearseat subbox similar to the 350Z (since my stepdad has one, it makes it easier to walk to the garage, take a pic and work from that then Googling a bunch of other pics.
Targa's on F-bodies are so nice, if the damn windshield didn't look like a bike ramp, the car would look even nicer.

Regarding tops, here's a good bit of info I just saw posted by Chris (Whistler):
The roof skin from a hardtop car is 3.5MM SMC. It has slightly more flexural strength than a piece of cardboard. Fine if the car is to only sit and be looked at, but the low pressure created above the roof of the vehicle in motion will cause it to lift at only neighborhood speeds. My first attempt at a targa panel was to use the roof skin from a hardtop, and reinforce it with 1/4x2 inch strap steel both in the front and the back, and underlay that with another 1/4 inch of epoxyglass. It worked OK for around town, but would lift in the middle at about 60MPH.
The one that worked was 8MM carbon fiber, with a 10MM preload to increase center tension. It worked great up to about 135-140 when it would start to get noisy in the middle. The options for a stock appearing targa panel will limited to:
Steel (english wheel fabricators only need apply), but even steel would need to be two 10G panels bonded together with a foam core in the middle for strength.
Carbon fiber. My first try was 5MM, 8MM worked much better.
Tempered glass.
Custom lexan/plex may be an option, but I still think it will be too weak. The F body roof is very wide and flat.
The gutter areas require a few days worth of fab and some SMC work on the rear to look OEM. The headliner then needs to be reworked and recovered.
