Default REMOVABLE BARS ON CAGE.....

IS THAT NHRA LEGAL? I WAS READING ONE OF THE POSTS ABOUT A REMOVABLE REAR BAR SO THAT PASSENGERS CAN STILL GET INTO THE REAR. IS THAT LEGAL? IF SO IT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD IDEA. I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE BAR ON MY SIDE BY THE DOOR, JUST ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THE REAR SO THERE IS ONE ENTRANCE INTO THE BACK. THANKS, AND SORRY ABOUT ALL CAPS, JUST NOTICED IT.

THE ONLY REMOVABLE BARS YOU ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE IS THE SIDE BARS. YOU REALLY ONLY NEED THE DRIVER'S SIDE BAR (5 POINT) ANYWAYS.

-nice caps huh?

I had a removable cross bar on my bolt-in Wolfe cage in my T/A, and I never had any problems with tech inspection. Then again, I made sure to cover all of the bolts up with rollbar padding, too, so that might've helped. Technically, it is not legal for NHRA inspections.

When cages are described as "weld in" or "bolt in" that means how they are installed in the car. They are either welded to the frame/body of the car, or they are mounted with metal plates and 4 bolts at each point. NHRA legal cages are not bolted together at any joints, they must be welded, and the only allowable bar that can be removed is the driver's side bar. Now, some tracks are more lenient than others, and yes you can sometimes hide a stealth bolt-in bar with padding and they rarely check, but its up to you if you want to attempt a rule deviation. I'd rather provide you with accurate and NHRA-legal information and let you go from there.

And, make sure the side bar passes thru the area between your shoulder and elbow when you are in the seated position with your arm down. Some tracks are VERY hard on that rule, so don't waste your time on a cage with a low-bent side bar that allows easy entry. Just get a cage with swing-out sidebars or learn to crawl over it.
