i'm leening more to the car flexing when you go over a bump or a curb like into a driveway being the culprit for cracking in addition to the sun baking them.

My car is a 99' with 117K on it. It sits out in the sun everyday + its black with an ebony interior. My dash only have 1 small crack about 1/2 long. Its right next to the defrost vent in the middle of the dash.

217,000 miles, 7 years (75% or more in Texas), never used a sun shade, put t-top shades in during the hot summer months every year, no cracks at all as of yet

No cracks, and I don't do anything to protect them. No tint either.

And I have T-Tops.

*Now watch, I'll go get in my car and have a huge crack now.*

00 with t-tops. 61,000 miles. O cracks. I always have the t-top shades in if the tops are on, I always have a window shade in if it's parked. (even for ten minutes). I use meguiars NXT interior protectant on the dash.

Edit: Knock on wood

1995 Firebird hardtop with 15X,XXX miles.. Still on the original dash pad. Hasn't shown a single crack, despite the temperatures it gets inside (100*+) while sitting outside in direct sunlight. I don't use any protectant on it either, and rarely clean it.. it looks like crap with all the lint and dust particles all over it lol.

I think it's really a hit or miss when it comes to cracked dash pads. Some crack, some dont.

mine is cracked to hell and back it was that way when i got it my 97z cracked about 3 years after i got it. i think if i buy a new one i'll cut it in half and put trim on the edges of the cut that way if it does crack it wont be able to run all the way across

T-tops with no cracks. It's garage kept, and I hardly ever leave it out in the sun for very long. If it is in the sun it has the t-top shades on and a window visor to cover the dash, and I have 5% tint all around.
