No regrets for me. It simply comes down to the following:
The 4l60e might hold up at those power levels.
The 4l80e will hold up at those power levels.
Having been inside both of them, after working on a few 4l80e's I could never look at the internals of a 4l60e again without thinking "cute little toy."

^^Yea, the 4L80E's are a beast..a friend of mine runs a Tranny Shop, and we've messed with a few of them.. like looking at a 4cl next to a V8.

One of the first ones I've heard of going from 6 speed to auto. Great choice! I love my auto...well, I'll love it once the 80 goes in.

That does pretty much sum it up. I'm definitely going with the 80 now!

There are quite a few that go that way, probably as many as us guys that go to a T56.

It's just personal preferance..I've driven my Auto now for 3 years, and I have the perfect opportunity to swap it, so I am. I miss driving a Standard, and I want my own, so what better way to do it than with my Car. That and knowing something will last and stay on the street is the bast part.

To you it's just like putting a 4L80E in your car, you know the **** will hold up.

Okay, so what would you guys consider for the controller? TCI? PCS as mentioned earlier?

So for sure, the LT1 PCM will NOT control it, even if you reflash it? Just the LS1 PCM?

Also, what did you notice about the difference in gear ratios? Did the car slow down that much?

Welll, mine is in a Chevelle, but...
I have been running the TCI controller for almost 2 years now with no problems. Pretty much tuned it to my liking and forgot about it.
I always hated the 1st to 2nd gear drop off in my 700r4s which is the same as the 4l60e. It was great to get back to normal spacing again with the 4l80e.

So do you think the tighter gear spacing will make up for the higher first gear ratio of the 80E as far as quickness?

The 4L80 is the same as the 400 in the first 3 gears-2.48, 1.48, 1-1, + od. If you are going to Procharge it, you'll load the motor in first gear which may help, and the ratios are more evenly distributed. It won't accelerate as quick off the line, (3.07 vs 2.48), so the 60' may suffer a tick or two. The 4L80 will use a little more power, but again, Procharger! You will sleep better knowing you made the right move. Keep us posted!
