Does anyone make a bracket that will relocate the stock torque arm off of the tail shaft housing? I'm broke, but I want to get that thing off of there.

Im not sure about relocating the stock one, or why you'd want to really. The stock TA is so flimsy and just screams wheel hop. I went with an adj tunnel mounted TA to solve some pinion angle problems myself. I didn't realize it at the time but when you go tunnel mount, you actually sacrifice ground clearance and I scrap it on steep inclines sometimes.. I'd look into buying some boxed LCAs or boxing in the stock ones yourself to help with wheel hop also..

 

it gets the torque arm mount off the tailshaft and mounts it on a transmission mount so you dont break your tailshaft. mine has broken on the dyno at only 340hp with the torque arm mounted on the tailshaft

 

Because I'm broke. I really don't have the extra money available for the relocation bracket and the adjustable ta. I should have some decent hp when I'm done with the turbo setup. I had 390 to the wheels before and I really don't want to have added stress on the transmission. I have tubular lca's with rod end links on one end. I've never had any wheel hop, thats not my concern. My concern is protecting my 1700 dollar transmission.

 

ta relocation brackets cost about $250, you would be better off finding a tunnel brace mounted ta used for about the same money.

i hadn't seen those yank crossmembers, those are great prices. but you still need a better ta with that added power. i am going to be selling my spohn with front loop soon.

I understand the whole "broke" situation, trust me. LOL.. As for the difference between the two, the Relocation part for the Stock TA just gives you a new tranny crossover brace that provides a spot to mount the TA.

The Tunnel mount TA on the other hand, gives you a crossmember where that flimsy piece of metal goes, which is farther back from the tranny. This provides better launching geometry while removing the TA from the tranny all together.

That's 250 bucks more than the yank cross member.....

 

if you get the relocation for the ta from umi and use the stock ta you have to buy there bushing that goes on the trans mount so the ta fits. Don't use the stock ta

 

I went with BMR all the way, relocation crossmember, weld in S/F connecters, adj. T/A, & adj. C/A's and I will add that I've been very happy. The crossmember is low & does drag at times, when we welded it in we did turn it so the center was not straight down, but tucked up a little.

 

If you dont have the cash you can always look for a used one. I will be selling mine along with the torque arm in a couple weeks once I get my fabbed 9" in place.

I have to re-design the mounting Brackets, I tore them off the bottom of the Car when I was loading it onto the Trailer. You do lose Ground Clearance..and it sucks sometimes.
