Can a converter that is too loose hurt my times?
Right now I am running a Yank 4000 stall on my Camaro. It is powered by a 413 CID LS2, that only made 430 rwhp because of pretty bad converter slippage. The car runs 10.5's-10.6's @ 125mph all day. The converter is actually flashing at about 5600 rpms off the trans brake. Obviously this is a lot higher than myself or Yank thought it would stall, but this higher stall is leading to awesome 60' times in the 1.39's. The car is coming out of the hole like a raped ape, but lacks much topend pull. In fact I am seeing about 17% slip in the converter on the topend using my mph and a gear calculator. I am going to have Yank restall the converter, because I was hoping to spray a little n20, but with the converter stalling very high already, even a tiny shot would blow right through the converter. I understand that the car might not run as good NA with the converter tightened up, but do you guys think that with a tighter converter I may see less slippage on the top end resulting in better ET's and mph, even when NA.

If the converter is not efficient then yes it will hurt your times. The thing is that you might gain mph but loose a bit of 60ft. It's a toss up but the fact of the matter is what does it ET? To me that is the most important and the Dyno numbers are just what they are, numbers. The dyno is a tuning tool and the race track is fact! I have seen cars dyno lower numbers when a converter has been swapped but go faster at the track. To me ET's > Dyno #'s! Good luck with the restall and I'm sure Dave at Yank will get you to where you need to be if it makes sense. Vince

Is it a PT 4000,if so sounds like the added Tq from your 413 might be the culprit,its already pushing through the verter 17%.My PT4400 with a 346 with only 370 DYNO TQ is right at 13% slippage.Now i have gone as good as 1.36 60,with average between 1.37-1.38.The 13 % up top is just too loose for my liking.Some NHRA superstock cars are as tight as 4-5 % but that is running some really trick stuff$$$$$$$ Mclay 200r4,5-6000$ trans,and 2000 $ verters. I think you wold benifit from having it tighten up with your TQ.

what are your shift points set at? do you think that is too much stall for your car? i ordered a pt3800 because the pt series are known for their topend and i hope i didn't over do it.
