i am wondering also whats the best shift kit to buy?

As far as the cooler goes buy the Hayden plate and fin style part number 1679. Its rated to be used on vehicle with a gross weight up to 30,000 lbs and will keep your transmission cool. Its up to you to do the fan or not. I put one on my last cooler just because it was really easy to do and cheap. I bought an electric fan on ebay for like $15. You can get the hayden cooler for around $50. The fin and plate style coolers are the best to use also.

I use the 24K B&M cooler, with no fan coupled to a 3 qt deeper trans pan, it keeps eveything nice and cool.

I would say the fan is not needed. Just depends on where you mount it I put mine right in front of the radiator and mine stays plenty cool with no fan.
