Default third gen newby tranny question...

Can anyone tell me why a 700R-4 would not go in reverse and all other gears work fine. I checked the fluid level and its good and I can't think what it might be. A friend of mine is asking me for help and I'm trying to figure it out. I used to know 700s like the back of my hand but now its just not coming to me. Thanks.

First try driving forward and then downshift to manual low 1 if the car does not engine brake then its something with the LOW/REVERSE clutch set Otherwise it may be something with the REVERSE INPUT CLUTCH

yes if when you let off and manual downshift to first at some speed the down shift should occur and it will feel like the car is being slowed down if it feels like the car is just rolling all the way to a stop then its the LOW/REVERSE clutch set thats bad, But in any case its gonna have to be torn down and or replaced to fix fix
