What should I expect to spend on Built trans?
The sponsers on this site seem to have a pretty good hold on the weak links in the 4L60's. They are experts and have built far more of this transmission than any "local" tranny shop. I have DOZENS of local tranny shops in my area I just dont wanna be visiting them every other month. Good luck
I personally wouldn't and don't waste my time with 60s. It's weak and unreliable. It couldn't even handle stock LT1 power much less a modded LS1 (in stock form), and I've heard too many horror stories about built 60s failing. Not worth it when a 80 swap runs close to the same price as a built 60.
I'm sure the sponsors do a quality build, but that to me is like trying to build a 10 bolt. If you want to support a sponsor get a built 80 from them.
BTW I've had an LT1 and LS1 - both A4s.

Not trying to flame, just trying to open your eyes to what's out there.
The 4L60E is fine and built can stand a good amount of abuse. I think sometimes people dont think deep enough into it the reason that you hear of more 60e trans breaking than any other has nothing to do with wether its weak or not . Its a simple case of there are more 60es on the road than anything else 100000s

The current "accepted race build" 4L65e handles over 1,000 hp and 750 ftlbs of torque, and will make a couple hundred WOT NOS-assisted 2-3 upshifts at better than 7200 rpm. Some people can flame all they want, but not my fault if the builder did not do his job or the customer did not want to pay for it. With current parts quality/availibility, premature failure is un-acceptable. I can show u 9sec st cars w/ 4L65s, I can even show u a low 10sec truck at 4600lbs running a 700r4 (same internals as 4L65) w/ no failures.
I guess my point is that 99.9% of the "local" shops do not know what the vendors and heavy-hitters here know about these units. There are at least 40 steps to making these things live, most shops are still on step #4---and why not? On a performance car, u only get a tail light warranty anyhow. Pay a couple grand now, or pay a few hundred a few times, your call

I spent a good chunk with Circle D and couldn't be happier. Slightly better than stock rebuild, and it shifts like a dream and definitely is a huge improvement over stocker.
